Hi Harrison4

I had HA on 28/12/18, had a follow up Echo at the end of Feb 2019 and meeting with consultant on 10/04/19, next meeting with consultant on 16/10/19 - try ringing the PA of the consultant you are assigned to at hospital to try and get appointment

Had my HA in December 2017. Heart scan two weeks ago August 2019. I rang every week for months to get an appointment...... so eighteen months....

I had an Echo immediately after the stent procedure but no scans after that. I did have an appointment with my cardiologist a few months after the op but was then transferred over to my local practice.

My husband had his HA in April 2017. He had an ICD fitted in November 2017. Saw a heart failure nurse 3 or 4 in the summer of 2017 a few times before being discharged by her. Hasn't seen a consultant or had an echo since. I’m sure this contributed to his anxiety. Do push to see a consultant.

Scans I don’t think are automatic. Individuals seem to be looked at on a case by case basis. If your rehab is going well and the meds are settling down why do you need one?

My hubby had a HA followed by a CABGx4 in March/April 2018 and has only had one appointment with his cardiologist since, which was about 7 weeks post surgery. He was unable to complete his Rehab due to a stroke.

There has been no contact with anyone for over a year now, apart from the GP’s surgery for medication. The situation was the same following his first HA in 2007 - just rehab and GP.

Only rehab and GP care - and only then, if I ask for it.

I had a HA and stents last August; got the scan the day after, about 10 minutes before I left hospital. Since then nothing at all. I never even saw the cardiologist except when he did the stents and I was sedated. NO follow up at all. Here it seems to be "fix the plumbing and kick them out".

Not had one and was told I wouldn't need one as they were happy with what was done and having looked at me during the procedure they were happy I wasn't at risk of another. So I guess I have to believe them.

Hi Harrison4,

I'm glad you're making a good recovery and have benefitted from the cardiac rehab.

Reading the other posts, it does seem that echos after heart attacks vary , but is a very commonly done procedure on an outpatient basis which gives information as to how much heart muscle was damaged( if any) as a result of the heart attack. It might be worth asking your GP/cardiologist or rehab team if you need one. Some people's medication needs to be adjusted ( increased ) if there is muscle damage as it may help improve its function, so it doesn't hurt to ask.

I hope I've helped.

Take Care,

Philippa

I had my HA in January and had a 'bedside scan' before I was discharged. Due to another health issue, I also had an in-depth scan of my entire body and my Cardio Consultant was able to use/refer to this when we met today. I was subsequently discharged from the Cardio Dept.
