EF 46%

Good afternoon.

Have just had my results back from my stress MRI, turns out I have a dilated Left ventricle, that is impaired with an EF of 46%.

And just to top it off the cardiologist has put on the letter....this is very reassuring news......😩

Hi Deano. I am sorry to hear your news I understand this is a shock and not what you were expecting. It maybe a good idea to book an appointment to discuss with your GP until you can see the cardiologist. I think it important to try and focus on the positive in that the cardiologist writes about it being reassured. Others will be along who have similar EF but from what is written that can be improved/managed. Do book time with your GP maybe a 20 minute slot so you get longer time with them. Sending big hugs. Take care. Zena x

Thank you my friend. I was pooing my pants when I first read it, but I’ve calmed down a bit now.

Yes it’s difficult when it comes out of the blue. It’s trying to stop the intrusive thoughts that can overtake and overwhelm you. It’s about trying to step back analyse the situation then try and work on a plan of action to deal with it. Hopefully your GP will help you get your thoughts in order and having a plan helps you focus your thoughts on what you need to do. I hope you can get an early appointment to discuss. In the meantime maybe speak to the BHF nurses. Big hugs. Zena x

Hi Deano

I am sorry too that you received the results of your MRI scan this way.

It leaves for you with lots of unanswered questions and what ifs.

I agree with Zena perhaps make an appointment with your Cardiologist or GP so you can discuss the results.

Hopefully Prada47 or Lezzers will be along to share their expertise and experience with you soon.

Yea, spoke to Lezzers already, fat lot of good that did me 🤣.

Hey, how very dare you!! A normal EF is between 50 & 70 so 46 is only just below the norm. You're not considered to have HF unless your EF is below 40, you're a long way from that. The way to improve your EF is the right diet, exercise (remember the heart is only a muscle 💪 and the more you exercise it the stronger it becomes) and meds. You're already on the dapa.....meds which is a really good drug for the heart. So try not to worry too much!

How's that sound? ☺

That’s better Lesley 😏

I think he must have googled EF (using reputable websites!) and realised that I was right, but is finding it hard to say so 😂

in reply toMilkfairy

She didn’t say that earlier, she said ‘google it ‘ because she was busy with Mr Kipling.

Hi Deano

Sorry to hear your news, it comes as a huge shock when this lands on your lap.

However, all is not lost. 46% is a pretty good figure, it's only a little down on what is regarded as normal, and as Lezzers says EF can be improved with good diet, exercise, keeping the weight down to a good BMI, no smoking and limiting the alcohol. I know it does work, I started off with an EF of 30% immediately after my heart attack/cardiac arrest , 10 months later it's up to 40-45%.

Most importantly the actual EF figure really doesn't matter, the medics are more interested in how the patient is doing, one person could have an EF of 25% and be pretty much fine and be able to live normally without any side effects, while someone else could have a preserved EF but be struggling with tiredness and breathlessness.

Have a chat with your consultant and GP and just relax and try to take in all in and remain positive.

You sound like your fairly OK - still sparring with Lesley! 😊😊

HiDeano

46 % EF is not to bad if it got classed as Heart Failure it would be Mild, not near the range of Moderate/Severe. . NYHA scale is what Heart Nurses tend to use for classifying you to a grade., ie does it prohibit you doing normal tasks Shopping, Showering, Dressing these type of activities.

ps and leave Lesley alone. lol

Regards

pps I have been down to 27% currently low 40s so it can get better

in reply toPrada47

Thanks Frank, ok I’ll go easy on her 😇
