Waited until Christmas to make a concerted effort to exercise more as well as lose some weight. I have AF which has started causing discomfort. Local hospital specialist has suggested that as his operating tables have a maximum weight limit of 20 stones he cannot even consider offering me an ablation at this stage. Does this seem reasonable or am I being held to ransom to lose weight ? This is not an opportunity for some to weight shame btw

AF and ablation op
I know some people here in the US that were refused surgeries until they lost weight. It is much more risky when obeisity is a factor. The catch 22 is one needs to exercise to aid in the weight loss which for some is nearly impossible. My AF got alot less frequent when I improved my diet snd lost some weight. Theres no guarantee but it is worth the effort.
Hello and welcome to the forum! No much equipment has weight limits. This is why they have bariatic ambulances and other equipment. A friend decided they needed a wheelchair temporarily after surgery and I visited the Red Cross. The standard wheelchairs have a weight limit of 17 stone and they had to get a different model from another branch. The good news is that if you lose a reasnoble amount of weight your diabetes might go into remission. Good luck!
I was classed pre-diabetic last year. After joining here I took up a carb limited (100gm/day complex carbs) Mediterranean diet and so far have lost over 2 stone.
Have a chat with your GP about a medically supervised 800 calorie a day diet. It is very demanding but it can be done if you are determined and want to transform your life.
I’ve been told by arythmia nurse that a ablation won’t be considered as I’m overweight. I have lot of fluid build up due to heart and on on two different water tablets. My weight went up because of this , and water tablets have got me back to what I was. I’m watching what I eat and don’t drink alcohol now but weight loss is hard when you can’t exercise.
