Hi all, I was wondering has anyone done the Herbalife ‘nutrition’ plan? Is it something that can be done with a heart condition? I need to lose some weight but need a little kick start and wondering whether this could be an option. I’ve read conflicting things around it and I am waiting for my Heart Nurse to get back to me as well to see her views. Just thought I’d reach out here too.

The BHF recommend a Mediterranean Diet. If you keep it low in fat and limit carbs to 100gm per day you should start losing weight. Beware of empty calories from alcohol - in fact it would be best to give it up for a while

Thank you. I have heard a lot about the Mediterranean diet so will look into this. I’m not allowed to drink alcohol anymore so that should help.

Robin Ellis who was the original Poldark, and kept his shirt on more, became a chef and Type II diabetic and has written some excellent Mediterranean cook books. Highly recommended.

I would wait for your nurse to respond and react accordingly. You could also talk to the BHF Heart Helpilne nurse. bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...

And as far as losing weight is concerned, more exercise within what your body allows you to do, smaller portions, and cutting down or better cutting out sugary foods and drinks, and 'snacks' like crisps and salted peanuts is a really good start . Set yourself a target say 1 kg per two weeks or more to start with, and stick with it until you achieve a weight your mind and body feel comfortable with. I lost 13 kg in about 4 months last year without too much effort by adjusting lifestyle and diet and have more or less kept my final body weight and feel so much better for it.

The latest ‘fad’ diet appears to be low carb - it makes sense but then they all do until the next one comes along . In the end I suspect a balanced’ whole food diet is the way forward with nothing too extreme- just little or no processed and not too much carb.

MichaelJH recommended the Mediterranean Diet to me and the weight came off and stayed off. Other benefits were I am no longer pre-diabetic, and my BP and cholesterol came down although I take lower doses of BP and statin meds.

That sounds great but I would need a 7 day plan, breakfast, lunch , dinner for me to follow and tell me exactly what to have at each meal I haven’t got a clue !!!🥴🤔

you f do not need to check money at Herballife, it’s a rip off . You can get all of your nutrient needs from real food and understanding (taking responsibility) to learn about nutrition. Fats have 9 calories per gram , double that of carbs & protein which have 4 calories per gram . You can see how over consumption of any food will cause fat gain if you know how many calories YOUR body required to function aligned to your daily activity (look up basal metabolic rate) . Eat higher portions of satisfying lean proteins (Chicken, turkey , lean beef , fish not processed, pies, sausages, charcuterie) . Fill your plate with fresh veg , some carbs (potatoes, rice, carrots, etc) and don’t go over the top with the hidden calories on condiments / sauces .. many are red labels for salt , sugar , saturated fat and add a load more calories. You can make a huge difference in your well being just by walking, you don’t need a gym , just move. You don’t burn enough calories in a gym session (you can build strength, muscle and performance got quality of life though ). We burn more css as kitties in our daily movements called Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis. Just by moving , walking , house work , taking the stairs , walking further to the shops etc. it all build up to make a dent in daily calories burned.

I’ve made incredible changes in the last 5 years by gaining some real knowledge on how nutrition works , it’s not about buying a plan from Herballife, Slimming World etc these businesses do not educate you , they hide real facts behind another language to keep you ignorant and locked in to their products. As many have already stated , the med diet is proven by science. Well done for looking to make a start 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️

This is really helpful, thank you. I really need to understand food more I think and this will help. I have done slimming world before and it worked for me but I’m finding with a busy life and children it’s not always easy to keep to and cooking from ‘scratch’ which is their main idea can be tricky at times.

EVbe, you might just need to plan a little , plan a menu for the week. Proper planning prevents pi$$ poor performance 👍. The more you are organised and know what meals and snacks you are going to have then that takes away stress and opportunity binge or comfort eating. It will help with your shopping bill too. Ice helped quite a few people get started , I’ve been helped loads so I love paying it back into the knowledge pot. I followed SW for about 20 years .. no such thing as free calories/food .. syns 🤦🏼..

I’m really happy to help. I’ve taught my kids (adults) about nutrition.. no one else does ..

I batch cook home made veg. soup with lentils and healthy casseroles and stews and freeze them so when you're really busy you can just warm them up.

I've been on a Mediterranean diet for decades and love the variety and tastiness.

Like DWizza says, Herbalife is mainly a money making business- run as a pyramid scheme. I have known several otherwise healthy people become quite ill while using it. Best to stick with real foods or perhaps ask your doctor or the nurses to recommend another diet shake product.
