Today the sun stops dead in tracks as the earth revisits it's tilt towards the sun. Astronomical Winter starts - but the sun is returning and the light nights are coming back. Rejoice.

Rejoice indeed, these short wet gloomy days are all well and good but the long, bright sunny ones are particularly enjoyable and I’m really looking forward to them.

I live on top of top of a hill facing South West, watching the rain lashing in, can't go walking, or gardening. It's annoying but at least I am warm and dry. Where's the holiday catalogue?

We have a few ‘parallel days’ here in NE Scotland - the sunrise is still getting a minute. Later but sunset is also later - it’s getting there! Joy!

I have a friend who lives on the far north coast of Norway; way above the arctic circle where they have 3 months of total darkness and 3 more of semi darkness. She recently sent me a photo of her town at 11am. It looked like midnight. I thank my lucky stars that we have any sort of daylight by 9am. She spends weeks without sleep until her body clock adjusts in winter.

Well we are flying off to Ottawa in the morning to visit our daughter, it’s bobbing between-12 and -22 with the wind chill factor, so we will probably be happy with a bit of rain when we get back 😄in the meantime I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a prosperous and trouble free 2020 xx
