The Heart Attack that thankfully wasn't

I still work 1 x 1/2 day per week on a Thursday afternoon. Thursday just gone the phone rings just after 5pm and it is the one who must be obeyed asking what to do as she had a crushing pain in her chest that radiated down her left arm and her jaw. Classic HA symptoms so told to no more than dial 999 immediately and I dropped everything and just left work.

Got home and she's still the same - there is no 18 minutes for an ambulance out in the sticks, it gets when it gets - gave her 300mg of Aspirin and after another short wait a Paramedic comes. In turn an ambulance turns up and she is taken away at a rapid rate of knots.

Further tests in A&E prove she has not had a HA but is severely anaemic which when it gets to this stage imitate the symtoms of a HA. Investigations yesterday reveal a tear to her intestines and the swellings she has had is where all the blood was leaking to. This has since evacuated her body and all swellings have gone down.

She has since had 4 units of blood + an iron infusion to try and raise her haemoglobin levels, if they can't then she will need a full body transfusion. At present there is no guarantee she will be home for Xmas but as I have said it will be what it will be.

I'm more thankful they have found very quickly what was wrong and cannot praise the hospital staff enough for their attention.
