Yes, makes me go the loo! I’ve reduced to 1.25 because it was taking HR low and getting too active dreams and a headache

Bisoprolol I hate it!

I have been on varying doses from 2.5 mg to 5 mg to 7.5mg and 10mg

Currently I am taking 5mg a day and I must say there are now no noticeable ill-effects

However in the past I have had extreme fatigue and a variety of other symptoms which may be wholly or partly due to other medication-including tinnitus (hissing and whistling in the ears) dizziness, loss of balance and light-headedness

I started it after an "episode" of chest pain in July 2018 and had a triple bypass in August 2019

(There are other symptoms including nausea, shortness of breath and loss of appetite but these have been mild and not long lasting)

There is probably some element of the body getting used to medication and adjusting to it

Diarrhoea (acute and watery) I have had but it started when I was put on statins and nitrates after an angiogram and was not noticeable for the previous 6 months when I was on just Bisoprolol and blood thinners (Apixaban)

A cardiac surgeon told me to drop the statins and nitrates if they were causing diarrhoea and it worked like a miracle

This was better advice than I got from one of the doctors at the surgery who had referred me to the hospital for a colonoscopy!

Now I am on a different statin and it seems ok

Now 3 months after the operation I am hoping to phase out the medication -St Thomas' said to end the blood thinners and I believe that the anti-clotting Clopidogrel can only be taken for a year which I will have completed by Christmas

That will only leave the dreaded Bisoprolol which my body seems to have got used to and the statins-nitrates seem to have dropped out of the picture

Hoping that this is of some use to you-at least it has helped me to review my own position!

I know from experience as a patient and from watching pharmacists, nurses and doctors that medication calls for a lot of careful and concentrated work

One of my brothers was for many years H M Coroner for one of the largest cities in the country and you should hear him going on about the need for accuracy in prescribing and dispensing-I must say that your GP sounds a rather casual and may need a bit of kicking

Thank you for your reply very interesting I am on bisoprol for sevear etopics The consultant said they can be cured with bisoprol but people on this forum say it just gets rid of the symptoms and not the etopics and I tend to go with the people on the forum who have been there. So it looks like I will be on bisoprol for life so I had just better get use to it take care xxx

I’m on 12.5 mg per day and never leave home without planning my route in advance, and the first thing I find out about a new destination is the location of the loos. I’m also on the top dose of Entresto which has diarrhoea listed as a possible side effect, so I’m doubly afflicted.

My positive take on it is that it rids mybody of a lot of fluid which cuts down on my daily furosemide . 😀

Hi, I started on Bisoprolol at similar dosage and time to you. I had no symptoms until yesterday and I went to the toilet so many times! Hoping it was a one off..

I am only on 1.25 mg, but before the Bisoprolol I had a normal poo every single day, nothing urgent about it, just regular. On the Bisoprolol, I am only going every 2nd or 3rd day, but it's an absolute emergency situation to get to the loo before the eruption happens. Not much warning, it comes on within seconds. I too am wary about travelling far from home on PooDue days!

Hi

I have the problem fear of going out or planning trips around loos. I take 10mg of Bisoprolol and have done for 5 years. My gp did blood tests, stool test and I had a colonoscopy all negative. I told the gp it started when I started the heart medication but she looked in the medication booklet and told me this side effect isn’t listed. Since then the heart consultant has told me it is recorded that bisoprolol does cause constipation. After Xmas I am going to look into changing from Bisoprolol just to see if there is a difference as I think apixaban may also be the culprit. Good luck

I had a quad bypass over 3 years ago and was also put on bisoprol after. They dismissed my complaint at the doctor's when I told them something was sending my usual patterns haywire. As someone who likes running it got to the point I could no longer go out unless I had just been to the loo. After years of frustration and getting no where with the docs I took myself off all meds except my aspirin.

Interesting. Had not associated my recent change of poo patterns (same as you, 2-3 times a day not one) and looser stools (only occasionally diarroeah) with the Bisoprolol I have been taking since my triple bypass in July.

I've been down to 2.5 mg/day for the last 4 months and the revised poo pattern has not affected my lifestyle. I had previously attributed it to taking up drinking a litre of brocolli smoothie every evening and that still may be the reason.
