Hi everyone. Has anyone used Kelo-Cote on their keloid scars? I've just started to use it and interested if anyone else had had successes with this and how long it took. Thanks in advance.

Yes! I have used it on my thyroidectomy scar, laser treatment and my pacemaker scar, it’s marvellous, you need a very small amount, so it lasts ages even though the tube is small. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply Kimkat. How long was it before you noticed any changes? I've only been using it for a couple of weeks on my bypass scar on my chest and arm.

Yes you have to be patient but keep at it, it softens the edges and it will flatten much quicker than normal.

How long was it before you saw results?

Honestly can’t remember, what I do know is my first thyroid scar didn’t heal as quickly as my second. Off the top of my head it was probably around 6-8 weeks before it wasn’t as obvious, sorry I can’t be more precise. At my pacemaker check last week, the nurses said my scar looked great. It’s about 18 months since I had the op.

Are you continuing to use it? I've only just started after 18 months post op. Had a keloid scar ever since, thanks .

Hi wiltsgirl,

I’m interested to know if this cream has worked for you, it’s eight months since my open heart surgery and still my scar gets inflamed and painful. I’m on my second tube of hydrocortisone cream which gives relief some days then it just flares up again.

I saw the surgeon who performed my operation this week and he said there is a procedure in which they can scrape the top layer off to make it smoother but it’s more than likely it will return ☹️ There’s no way I want that doing 😬

I go to bed every night with a folded hanky between my breasts which does help but if I could find something to help this I would be very grateful.

Hi Elaine, thanks for your message. I had my surgery in March 2018 and at first the scar was ok but gradually became keloid, itchy and sore, I don't have to sleep the way you have stated but it can be uncomfortable at times, especially us ladies where your boobs get in the way. I have also started to wear non-wired bras which are more comfortable. The reason I started with this is that I have moved to Wales and saw my new GP. When I mentioned the troubles I have with my scar she said that plastic surgeons generally use Kelo-Cote. I had previously used Betnovate (steroid cream), my GP suggested that this didn't work and in fact made the skin around weak so could only be used for a short period of time, say 6 weeks. I've also used bio oil which didn't really help. I think the Kelo-Cote is a long term thing and I have just finished my first tube (15g) its been about a month and it feels a lot less tender, but I know it maybe longer to get some full effect, I am expecting to use for a minimum of 3 months and see how it goes. My daughter gets married in July and the outfit I have chosen exposes my scar. I also considered seeing a scar clinic privately in Bristol (The Scar Team, Nuffield Health), but I thought I would give this a go first. I'm lucky my GP prescribed this for me and in Wales I get prescriptions for free. Good luck with whatever you choose, any questions or if you just want a chat please let me know. Jane

Thanks Jane , I’m going to see my doctor on Wednesday so I might ask her about Kelo-Cote, personally I wouldn’t go down the route of having it scraped off due to the fact that the surgeon said it will more than likely grow back 😬

Good luck on Wednesday, let me know how you get on. The other thing I remembered overnight was that my GP said that I had to be careful not to miss what may be a fungal infection (like thrush)between my breasts that may be causing the itching as these things happen in scar places where they are covered up. If so she suggested a fungal infection cream. I tend to agree about the scraping situation it may be worse. My friend had a keloid scar which you can hardly see on her neck. But we are 10 years after her surgery. May be patience isn't my best virtue! Best of luck x

Hi Jane,

I went to the doctors and we got so deep in conversation that I forgot all about asking for for Kelo-Cote 🙄 Any how I saw on Amazon that it was reduced so I bought a very small tube for around £10 and after using it three times I can actually see a difference beginning. Time will tell and I will keep you updated ☺️
