Hi, I had Cardioversion due to my Heart racing out of control while awaiting a pericardiectomy. It took three attempts to get it back in stability but since then and post the main operation a year later has not misbehaved again. I am on a low dose bumetadine to keep it under control plus aspirin daily. So good luck, Iam sure you will be fine.
Come over to the sister forum for Atrial Fibrillation. There are loads of posts there. You will find a lot of people have had it and almost all are positive about the experience.
I have had electrical cardioversion twice.
I had one just before Christmas. It worked after one shock and, touch wood, my heart is still back in rhythm. For the month before the cv I was put on Amiodarone, which is supposed to help the procedure work, and was left on it until a further echocardiogram could be arranged to see what my heart was doing once back in rhythm, after which I was taken off it. Cv just involves a short, 5 minute anaesthetic and then they hook you up to monitors while you recover to check you're OK to go home. It's nothing much, so nothing to worry about. Good luck.
Hi, my husband needed one after surgery. Amiodarone didn’t work for him, so it was off for a cardiversion. Afterwards he said he didn’t know why he was worrying about it beforehand. Hope this helps.
I've had 3 electrical cardioversions for racing AF. One 6 years ago, one last September and one in January. All have been successful. The last two were since a burst appendix in August. My cardiologist suggested they kicked off as a result of that incident. Since January and have been in NSR since. I'm currently taking 2.5mg of bisoprolol daily to keep things calm. I'm male 42.
I had it done three weeks ago. Straight forward procedure and there is nothing to worry about.
Mine was only successful for four days though.
