Hi, I’m having a new pacemaker tomorrow and can’t take my own advice about looking ahead instead of dwelling on the procedure! Why is it so hard to do the sensible things like not stressing about it? I’ve got a dual chamber pacemaker but now have moderate heart failure and they are trying a 3 lead biventricular one to see if that helps, as the ventricles are currently not beating at the same time. I’ve been wondering what happens when they change the device over, as my current one paces 99% of the time, does it take long? I know they do this all the time but it’s new to me! When my first one was put in it was as an emergency so there was no time to worry about it. Thanks.

New Pacemaker Tomorrow
Hi fanasyfanuk
I had an ICD fitted last August, you're having a Pacemaker - different bit of kit, but I imagine the process is much the same. I posted a report at the time, link below if it helps!

Thanks for that, it was really interesting, I’d missed your post at the time. Its good to have the X-ray! I do have a pacemaker already but it’s being changed over to a different type and probably didn’t make it clear in my original post that I was hoping for info about what happens when changing from one device to another. Appreciate your reply though, thanks.
I would like to wish you all the very best for tomorrow. It's human nature to be apprehensive, fear of the unknown is awful. Put your trust in the experts, they are well versed in all procedures. Look forward to better health afterwards.
Your only Human like the rest of us
When I had my Angiogram I told them I was scared and thay replied we would be concerned if you weren't worried.
Try to get some rest tonight and post when you feel up to it .
Best Wishes
Hi fantasyfanuk,I`m having my replacement pacemaker on the 29th Jan.Been told it`s straightforward procedure and if performed early in the day I might even be allowed home same day. Can`t drive for a week afterwards. All the best for tomorrow xx
Thank you. Yes mine is scheduled for the afternoon but I’ve been told I could go home about 8pm if all ok so am hoping for that. I stayed in overnight last time as the pacemaker implantation was quite late in the day and I had been pretty ill before it was done as an emergency. Hoping for sedation too as I didn’t get any last time.
All the best for the change over. I bet you’ll be back on here next week telling us it was a breeze etc 😉. Natural to worry of course. Looking forward to your post-op post!
My husband had the same PM you are going to have. What it can do is absolutely amazing!
The PM will start pacing immediately. It’s likely that it will be somewhat smaller then your older one and so much more effective. It will effectively sync your chambers to function seamlessly. You will likely get a bedside monitor that will record any unusual heart events and report them directly to your doctor. Events that you may never detect.
Our physiologist informed us that this new PM can detect early collection of fluids on your lungs and even heart events that are precursors to a heart attack. Science technology is incredible and we are fortunate to benefit from this research! The day after my husbands procedure he got out of bed and declared “I feel great” and it’s only gotten better.
It’s only human nature to experience anxiety before these kind of events.
So Merry Christmas to you and your best new mate.
Yours From Across The Pond
You will have had your procedure by now, hope you feeling good and all the nervousness has passed. Very best wishes x
Hope everything went ok for u
