Good Morning
Yes 45 % ef is not great and on the other hand it's not to bad !!! Medication is getting better all the time. Heart Failure can't yet be fixed but there is no reason not to live a full and active life !! You can move from Severe to Moderate with just Medication what do you take currently ??
Regards
Yes, there is much hope. I was diagnosed with heart failure last year with EF between 30 and 35. I was fit, good diet, active etc... and only 55. It was a complete shock. A year on, with meds and a few minor lifestyle changes, my EF is 50 to 53. I'm still out walking the pembrokeshire coastal path, where I live, still working, still living a pretty normal life. Aniexty has been my biggest issue over the last year but being on this forum and hearing from people who have been living well with heart failure for many years is a great comfort, its given me hope. I just got my new EF results from my MRI a couple of weeks ago so that has given me a boost. There is definitely hope!
You have posted quite a few queries and are obviously concerned. I would suggest you ring the BHF nurses later today to discuss your condition.
Also be wary of Dr Google! The BHF and NHS websites are trustworthy but there is a lot of old and incorrect rubbish out there which paints an overly negative picture not reflective of current treatments.
Good morning
Yes there is. Mine was 30% in June and is already improving. Eating healthy, exercising, dizziness permitting, and medication. It's scary isn't it? My son has also been diagnosed with the same thing at 37, and he is doing the same, apart from the exercise as he is disabled. There is always hope, keep looking after yourself and it can improve. Take care of you.
My ef dropped to 28%, my heart was beating out of sync and I got Sepsis of the heart from one of my new Pacemaker leads. I'm not sure how my situation was described but the hospital was planning to put me in a comma at one stage.
18 months on, I now have a new Pacemaker, Sepsis was sorted, the drugs are strengthening my heart and my ef was up at 39% last December. I am now described as "stable"
My advice to anyone would be to trust the professionals and take your time. Your heart is a tough bit of kit.
As you're already aware Heart Failure will not be reversed by diet.
My EF was 17 when I was first diagnosed and 3yrs on is 43 and am no longer seeing a heart failure consultant or nurse.
There is always hope for an improvement.
Eat a healthy diet, take some exercise and take your tablets.
Do check out the British Heart Foundation aka BHF online as there is a lot of information on there.
Forgot to add I had to initially limit my fluid intake to 1 and a half litres per day. However this came from a HF consultant.
Morning, I was diagnosed with AF in February of this year. Complete and utter shock, a bolt from out of the blue! My EF was severe 15% !! I must admit I did think that was it for me. BUT, after medication, cardiac fitness classes (great help) and fantastic help and dedication from all the hospital staff at Frimley Park Hospital my EF is now 55% (normal) and I’ve been signed off from the hospital. Just be positive and carry on doing what you normally do. Although, you may find you can’t do some things quite as well as before.
