You and your new best mate (ICD) can look forward to many wonderful times together.

You will likely come home with your left arm in a sling and told to not raise your left arm above your shoulder. Your new tiny computer needs to settle in your clavicle and the connecting leads need to develop scar tissue to securely attach to your body.

When you go for the procedure be sure to wear a button down shirt-so you don’t have to raise your arm. Button down shirts will be your fashion statement for a couple of months.

We found either sewing a few stitches of the left arm sleeve to the body of the shirt will prevent you from raising your arm. Safety pins work well too. Just stitch or pin from the elbow to the armpit. If you try to raise your arm you’ll get a tug as a reminder. My hubby wore a button down long sleeved PJ top at night and did the same thing.

The first few nights you, your new mate and your pillows will likely have a row, but that will settle down after a few matches-sleep will eventually prevail.

Be sure to attend to you incision site. Ask the doctors office what supplies you will need to clean the incision site then get the supplies at pharmacy and have when you get home. It’s very important not to get an infection. If you attend to this you will be great.

My husband had this done last September and after 6 months he forgot it wasn’t even there.

The first few months you will know it’s there because its growing attached to your body. Just be sure you treat it with TLC.

However if anything seems really out of wack contact you doctor and have it checked out.

Congratulations on joining the Club....you will find it interesting how may folks have an ICD that you never suspected.

Merriest of Christmases🎄
