Reducing off beta blockers.

I was given the all clear by my cardiologist on 22/5/19. He advised me that all results are clear.

I asked about detoxing off Anatolol 50g.

His advice was miss every other day for seven days.

After this miss every two days for seven days.

Then if needed miss every three days for seven days.

Anyone out there been told similar?

I’ve missed today and can feel heart palpitations already.

I’m due to take another one tomorrow then miss Sunday’ and so forth

Thanks

I assume you mean Atenolol. I would have thought a better way would have been to have reduced it to 25mg first.

I was weaned off my beta blockers over a week. I went from 180 to 90 to 30 and 0. You can't just stop them as that could make you ill. My gp wanted to stop them straight away, 180 to 0. If I had not said to the cardiac nurse I would not have known you have to be weaned off them. In fact my gp did not know they went any lower, she thought as they were such a high dose I was given to start with, they did not go lower. So that's why she stopped my prescription. So had to ring hospital to get them to speak to my chemist to give me my repeat. The pharmacist I saw on the Monday was livid it had been stopped just like that on such a high dose? So drs don't always know it all.

Regards Dee.

Thanks for sharing that with me. I’ve had a second opinion too. I am now alternating my days with 50mg then 25mg the next day. This will be for 7 days. Then will do 25mg daily for seven days. I will see how I am after that.

I was only on 1.25mg beta blockers so my GP said just stop. I would have thought 50mg would need to be weened off. Best of luck xx

I went thru same and overcame it when I was trying to go off Bisoprolol. I stoically endured it till it passed and today I'm no more on any beta blocker. Rather, Digoxin is doing better for me.

Hope you overcome it too. Good luck to u.
