I was told today that i wasn't eligible for hospital transport just because i get a bit out of breath and it was for people in wheelchairs. I shall have to cancel the pr course, i can't walk from the car park or pay £70 a week for taxis. I've an appointment in southampton, i can't drive 50 miles. And I'm very unlikely to be able to walk from the car park to the hospital in chichester on monday, yesterday i struggled to do 40 at the doctors for a blood test.
shame isn't it

Hi. I think there is a Hospital car service run by volunteers there.. They do charge, but I believe it’s not nearly taxi prices, and may be means tested. It’s worth asking, especially if money is tight.
You could try calling Southampton’s PALs. Patient Advice and Liaison Service if you have a problem.
Our hospital transport has recently started refusing anyone except wheelchair users. MY husband who was not allowed to drive after an operation on his hand had to pay £40 for ataxi to our closest hospital. It's appalling.
Our GP practice has a volunteer group who offer a car service to people who are struggling to either get to the GP or Hospital,. have you checked your own practice to see if they have Volunteers ??
Regards
Sorry we all seem to be offering the same solution !!
My daughter has sorted it with hospital transport. She works in care and rang up as such. They believed her but not me. She has done this frequently to get doctors out. It's not right is it? She is very persuasive
Had the same problem receptionist said it is not easy to get transport. Phoned multitude of organisations with no success . When i was hospitalised in one place had to go to another hospital and transport arrived that was 10 yrs ago but i now knew it existed. So contact any help organisation you can find and persist when they tell you no. Try phoni g the dept you are to attend and see if they can help.
. In whitby yorks my sister uses a volunteer gp and you pay tne cost of petrol. In chester 20 yrs ago the same. Now a days there is a system here which uses West Midland Ambulance Service where volunteers uses own vehicles to take patients to hospital out-patients but it is not easy. I used to see day ambulances who did a run collecting people but shortage of staff seems to have put paid to that.
I can drive a certain distance at present but the car parks are so far from each department that it becomes i possible. Often the carparks are at full capacity. My local out -patients has a small car park but the main one is down a steep slope and i am waiting for hip op and cannot physically walk up a slope as I found one day! Stairs yes using good leg only but can only put that one leg forward enough to actually move forward so have to pay a taxi , less than 2 miles but taxi costs £12. Altogether. Expensive when you go for rehab regularly and physio.
