Timing of when to take Bisoprolol

My husband had a routine heart operation in May 2019 and has been on 5mg of Bisoprolol since. The aim will be for this to be reduced after a year.

He isn’t sleeping well and concentration during the day can be a bit of a challenge. He takes the Bisoprolol in the morning and I am wondering if this is having an effect on his concentration during the day and then affecting sleep at night.

I known ultimately it will be the doctor’s choice as to whether the time my husband takes the medication can be altered but has anyone switched to taking Bisoprolol in the evening and found side effects were reduced?

Many thanks.

I take 2.5mg in the morning and 2.5mg in the evening and was tired a bit for the first couple of weeks, now nothing at all, sleeping fine and no tiredness in the daytime at all anymore.

Hi, I've only been on Bisoprolol for a couple of months, and it's only the lowest dose, but I found it hard to cope with staying awake through the day when I took it in the morning as directed. I also had really disturbed sleep at night with weird dreams. I have been experimenting with taking it in the evening (7-8 pm) and found it better - I can just about manage to stay awake all afternoon if I keep busy (there is still a slump between 4-5 pm) and I am sleeping soundly at night. Google it, there is a lot of information on the timing of this medication. (I do find it hard to remember whether I've taken the tablet, though, so I write it down when I take it! Keep a notepad beside the pills!)

I've been on 7.5 mg Bisoprolol for 4 years. I'm not aware of any particular side effect other than maybe made me more relaxed/ slowed down. I did try switching from morning to evening but switched back after a week of headaches. I've no idea why taking it in the evening would cause headaches but as soon as I switched back to morning headaches stopped.

I am currently on a low dose of Bisoprolol (lowers heart rate and BP) and an ACE inhibitor (to lower BP) as guidelines for those with diabetes are lower than others. Usual time for Bisoprolol is in the morning so it has greatest effect during potentially most stressful part of the day. As mentioned some people go on a split dose. I did so briefly with Isosorbide Mononitrate.
