I personally know veggies, vegans and omnivores and don't see that much difference in how healthy they are, or their life expectancy/quality. Esselsytn recommends whole plant based diet with no oil, others, ultra low carb, full fat and both these opposits seem to work.
My thoughts are the 3 demons:- Stress, processed food and lack of exercise, concentrate on these enemies and you are 90% there. Then add as much happiness as you can find and let the good time roll.

Since my ultra high blood pressure diagnosis I have changed my diet to one that is mainly plant based with some fish and low fat dairy but no meat.I've lost four stone as a result but still on meds for bp ( some reduction in dose. I've also lowered my cholesterol although it wasn't overly high anyway.My friend is pre-diabetic and attended a course advocating low carbs and high fat.She's lost over a stone, her cholesterol is down, she's off bp meds which she has been taking for years but she is still pre-diabetic.Strange eh?
Diets play a vital role in day to day living but it depends what your aiming for in life. Whether it's to be generally fit, at peak performance or just day to day.
Every diet is individual and it's what works best for you, people can only recommend based on personal experiences or data collected from other sources.
There's nothing wrong with wanting to be a vegetarian or vegan or something else, it's personal choice. However there's nothing wrong with eating meat, it depends on your ethical views, I don't mind it! If you do go for meat I'd recommend organic, grass fed and a high percentage of meat content in the actual fillet. This however can be more expensive! If your diet is generally ok then you can think about multi vitamins, these assist you in getting what you don't eat in food. In all honesty though it's about moderation and you can eat what you like (in parts) coupled with exercise
I would strongly recommend looking up Dr Esselstyn if you have any sort of heart disease, and Dr Dean Ornish, The predecessor to these guys was an engineer called Pritikin. It is a cure for many people, and it pains me to hear about low carbing, as that is a death sentence which can have short term success, its also not easy to do. As we are great apes we feel good on plants and so if you make the change you can eat what you like in terms of amounts, with out weight gain, but if you low carb you effectively kill your appetite and starve your self of the natural food of humans, carbohydrates. If you don't eat carbs, you will have low blood sugar, true, but look at the countries around the world who eat a plant based diet, high in carbohydrates, in the past no diabetes, sadly the western diet is spreading everywhere.
Dr Esselstyn’s diet makes angina pains dissipate some times with in days, but always with in weeks. Here is my list again,

Do your own research, there is so much disinformation out there I don’t expect any one to just believe me. Its not just that plants are low in fat, animal protein is inflammatory and 100’s of chemicals that are found in plants are anti-inflammatory. Oil is not a whole food, the same as white flour is not a whole food, they are chemical extracts. Salt, fat and sugar are very addictive, but once stopped you wont crave them.
I will give you an example, if you eat a baked potato and put butter and cheese on it, the equivalent in calories with out butter and cheese would be lots of potatoes, so you effectively have to eat more, but as fat is easily laid down in body tissue, and potatoes are low fat, most people who need to, lose weight with out trying when eating whole foods. The roughage transports fat out of the body, and you will never be constipated again. I believe IBS corrects its self in time when the bacteria that lives in the bowls becomes healthy again.
All this information is free on the internet, I recommend YouTube, but all these docs have books as well. You can tell a genuine researcher / doctor as they name their sources, and the meat, egg and dairy industry fund research which is questionable to say the least.
Don't believe the low carb people, they are like the Ivor Cummins chap, not qualified, selling something and trying to look clever to bamboozle
A whole food plant based diet is recommended for any of the modern degenerative diseases, as it is our life styles that make these illnesses. The IBS comment was to alleviate fears of too much roughage
I'm sure Milkfairy will be along shortly to tell you about her heart condition and angina that no diet will cure. You say a WPF diet is recommended, who recommends it? The NHS or BHF?
clinical research, I just looked up this one by Dean Ornish, I prefer Esselstyn's work as he only uses diet, Dean Ornish makes his study group meditate
Check them out on YouTube, no need to believe me. As for the Heart Foundation, less said, I can not understand why they don't promote a whole food plant based diet, but the movie What The Health, is interesting.
Research papers can be heavy going, but do tackle them, and check who sponsored the research, they often have a pay wall sadly.
Because you believe this diet cures all does not make it so. Just recently you said this diet will 100% cure all heart diseases & then admited you had exaggerated your claim. Now you're saying it cures angina & IBS. Additionally, you're saying you recommend this diet and to ignore the diet recommended by the leading authorities on heart disease. A WPF diet would certainly not be suitable for someone with high potassium issues & could potentially be quite dangerous!! Whilst this diet may work for some it will not work for all & it is wrong to suggest otherwise. As I've already said milkfairy will be along soon to explain why this diet won't cure her angina.
heart disease is complex and doesn't just involve obstructive coronary artery disease,
we cannot all eat our way out of our heart conditions.
You have the absolute right to believe what you do and follow your chosen life style. However can I ask you to reflect whether it is appropriate to present your beliefs with such firmness that you are correct and yours is the only way?
no it is not , its what you asked for and it was up there before you asked, you clearly had not read what I had written. Its a peer reviewed study with a control group. Look those doctors and researchers your self.
Many people are not given this information, why would it make you angry for me to share this, obviously I am talking about the majority of heart disease, that is life style induced.
As milkfairy has said not all heart disease is due to lifestyle, perhaps not even the majority . You're promoting this diet as a cure for all ills and it certainly isn't that. Some people may benefit by this diet but there are a great many who won't.
Where are the statistics for that. However, regardless of statistics, it irresponsible to tell a forum of vulnerable people that this diet will cure their heart disease and I believe admin have recently asked people to stop doing this.
Nobdy is saying there is anything wrong with the diet. The poster is saying it will cure angina within days & IBS. That is not the case, I'm saying the diet will not suit everybody which is the poster claims.
"A youtube video is not evidence it is opinion." How do you come to that conclusion? Youtube is a means of communication in the same way, the written word or a media report is. If anything it is more trustworthy, as the mainstream media is now totally corrupt and the written word in terms of scientific reports is carried out by scientists who are nearly all financed be vestered interest groups.
Maybe but unfortunately it's true. I have only ever commented on my belief of the benefits of a diet reducing highly processed carbohydrates and the benefits of statins for people with coronary heart disease but still been accused of pushing some sort of agenda which is rubbish.
Quite frankly if you eat chips, crisps, pies, cakes etc all the time you really only have yourself to blame if you get heart disease.
I consider myself a scientist having taken all three sciences at school. In biology one area we studied was teeth and their deployment.
If you accept Darwin's Theory of Evolution the teeth of various animals have evolved over many tens of thousands of years in line with their diet. At one end of the scale are carnivores - animals varying from tigers to domestic cats (needed breakfast before I started this post). Their teeth have evolved to kill and tear apart their prey. At the other end are herbivores such as horses and deer. Their teeth are designed to cut through plant matter and grind it down as it is more difficult to digest. In the middle of these are omnivores - the prime example of these being humans. Omnivores also tend to be opportunistic feeders.
I follow a Mediterranean diet as it is the type of diet I enjoy although I have moved to more fish and chicken these days. It also seems the type of diet that rarely needs supplements. So as we have evolved for this style of diet why change it?
