Best check with the GP or cardiologist - if the advice is sound your medics will endorse it, if not sound as regards your particular case they will clarify your medication rota for best results.

I read this too. I was always told to take my bp med at night ...Candesartan. (Recent good news though is that I don't need to take any more as under 120/70 )

Well done, maybe night is better to take BP pills

I'm also on Candesartan, among other things, and I take most of them in the morning! The only ones I take in the evening are the statin, and a bi-daily Bisoprolol.

Not much help to the OP but is there a blood pressure forum? I'd really like to know more about BP issues.

Thanks.

There is indeed, it's called high blood pressure support but it's a bit quiet so come and join us.

My understanding, and what I was told, is that because of their half-life BP medication should be taken in the morning to cover the day, usually the period of maximum stress. Sometimes medication is started in the evening till the person adjusts and some people may be on a twice daily routine. I will not be changing unless advised to do so by a GP or cardiolgist.

Hi Michael ! I understood from way back that the main reason for taking at night was for maximum protection in the early hours when likelihood of heart misbehaviour was at its height .....heart attacks are 5/6 times more likely in early morning hours and tend to be more severe than later in the day. At least that was what I was told and have since read.

There is currently a piece of clinical research underway that is looking at precisely this. I am taking part in it and was randomisers send to taking them at bedtime - which I have always done anyway.

My doctor recommends this as most heart attacks happen in the early hours of the morning. Stop leaping out of bed so fast!!
