Night sweats

My elective heart surgery went horribly wrong. First a stroke and then a junior doctor in the stroke unit wrongly deciding that I was allergic to blood thinners and putting me on a drip of Vitamin K. Not a good move after a mechanical valve transplant with blood clots a real possibility. After two months of being transferred back and forth between hospitals I was finally discharged in a wheelchair. On three occasions in the following weeks I woke in the night drowning in sweat. I put this down to the enormous anxiety that I had been through and showered myself down. However, recently I have read that heavy night sweats can be a sign of a silent heart attack and this worries me. Does anyone know if this is true and do so-called silent heart attacks cause lasting damage?

Firstly I am sorry for the nightmare you've gone through. I suffered a stroke after my angiogram, luckily it was mild and I have very little side effects.

If you are worried please speak to your GP or go to A & E, a blood test and ECG will show if you have had a heart attack.

I don't have night sweats as such but definitely overheat in bed, I constantly kick off the duvet and sheet as I am just too hot. I put this down to my medication.

Hi tickertalker

I don't know if night sweats can indicate a silent heart attack, however a heart attack silent or not can cause damage to your heart, though not always.

Hot sweats can also indicate you may have an infection somewhere or as you have said it could be stress, night terrors etc

I would suggest you speak to your Dr, as quite apart from you being concerned if they're happening frequently you could end up being dehydrated.

Good luck

You don't say anything about yourself. Could it be menopausal? I would contact my GP if I were you.

Thanks for the suggestion but if you take a look at my photo I think it’s fairly clear that I’m a geezer.

Right. Your photo is a tiny dot on my tablet. I withdraw my suggestion, and hope you get some better advice.

Hello :-)

You certainly went through an awful lot and I am so sorry about the experience you went through

Night sweats can be anxiety , medications or other underlying issues

I would talk with your Doctor about them , they may decide to do some blood tests refer you but just for peace of mind I would get it checked out

Please let us know how you get on :-) x

Hi

I've had this with a water infection, it does possibly indicate an infection

I am not a medical professional but please get it checked.
