M hubby has been on aspirin and omenaprazoe for 5 years , since his hf started. Now that he also has af he is on rivorastoban among other things. I wonder if he still needs the aspirin ( and resulting omenaprazole) as he is taking an anticoagulant. I think your body becomes deprived of some of the nutrients it needd with long-term use of omenaprazole thus adding to all his other problems. Thanks for always being there

Aspirin
NICE recommendations seem be for prescribing Rivaroxaban in conjunction with aspirin. I believe they work in slightly different ways and would suggest it best to talk to your GP/ cardiolgist.
Hi Patjo,
My hubby was prescribed rivaroxaban and aspirin together following his bypass surgery. He also took omeprazole to protect his stomach.
Long term use of omeprazole can severely reduce stomach acid resulting in an inability to extract some nutrients ( particularly vitamin b12 ) from food. His levels should be regularly checked and low levels of b12 are usually treated by injections. Folic acid and vitamin d3 are also affected.
I am writing this following my husbands experience of 12 years on omeprazole and metformin.
There is lots of information on the symptoms of vitamin b12 deficiency on the Pernicious Anemia forum on Health Unlocked.
I wish you both well
