Continuous Dropped Beats

Hi could really do with some advice / reassurance!

I have a history of tachycardia and palpitations (10 years!). I’ve had several tests- ECGs, holter tapes, echos and nothing has ever come up as being wrong.

I gave birth 1 month ago and since giving birth my pulse has actually been much better a lot of the time.

However something feels weird. I have a generally weird sensation in my cheat but also getting LOADS of dropped beats. I’m getting some periods where it is absolutely constant, like 10 in a row and I can barely catch a breath. I went to A and E today as so terrifying. They did an ECG and bloods all of which were normal and sent me home. Obviously the ECG only picks up a 10 second snap shot and I didn’t have any dropped beats during it.

Where do I go from here? I have 3 young children and terrified my heart is just going to suddenly stop before the cause is actually found. I will return to my GP and push for more tests but I know the wait will be long . I am sure the electrical impulses in my heart are mis-firing.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I should add I saw my GP after the first episode of dropped beats and he advised I start taking my Bisoprolol (I had been prescribed this last year but never taken as got pregnant). I’ve only taken for 2 days so far but dropped beats have actually been worse !

Ask for a Holter monitor or referral to cardiologist.

Having read a lot about magnesium on here I decided to try it and started three weeks ago. The missed beats seem to have stopped, at least for now so it might be worth mentioning to GP.

I would agree that you need a referal to a cadiologist and possibly a Holter monitor, Reveal device (small implanted heart monitor) to understand what is going on. I have had all of that and GP admits it is way above their heads. Best of luck.

Hi ajw

Is a dropped beat an ectopic ??

I see you have had a Holter and ECGs and Echocardiogram , was that requested by the GP or have you been referred to Cardiology recently ??

Not an expert in this being male, but I would have thought during maternity you will have been checked over pretty thoroughly !! I have pauses lasting for 3 seconds so missing 3 heart beats and Cardiologist is not concerned.

Did A+E not refer you to Cardiology or were you seen by a Dr or Cardiac Specialist Nurse ??

Try not to worry easy to say but, if in doubt shout out for help, maybe a call to your Post Natal Care provider may be worthwhile.
