Sun sensitivity

Hello. I am new here. My hubby has hf and af. Due to the fatigue caused by his meds, I find myself responsible for almost everything incuding his meds. I am sure I read that one of his meds cause sun sensitivity, but I now cant see this anywhere. He ws recently put on rivaroxaban. Maybe its that. He wants to sit in the sun so that he looks better than he feels, bless him. Can anyone help please.

Hi, welcome to the forum. To check for side effects there are 3 options I can think of:

. Read the leaflet with each medicine

. call or visit a pharmacist - they know the main side effects of lots of medicines off the tops of their heads and can do a full medicines review if you want too

. Call the BHF nurse helpline, who are wonderful for all sorts of heart related support. The number is 03003303311

I know that my husband had Amiodarone for AF for a while and that causes sun sensitivity whilst you’re taking it and for 6 months afterwards.

All the best.

Is he taking Amidarone because that definitely causes sun sensitivity

I have to stay covered up( long sleeves etc) and wear a hat . I must also say being out in the sun leaves me absolutely exhausted and I was someone who loved being outdoors

Thanks Nevil. Its a real shame not being able to enjoy the sun isn't it. He does not take midarone. I think Furosemide was the med I read about, but so many people on this forum take it that I don't think it can be true.

All the best with it

I did see a report which said that anticoagulants and blood thinners make people more sensitive to the sun making them burn easier. So stay in the shade or use Factor 50 on exposed skin!
