its now 6 weeks still I stopped taking statins abd my bp meds and I am finally getting over the side effects of the statins.

I have resumed this morning taking the bp Lercandipidine ,very nervously I might add as I was never 100% sure which tablet made me so ill this will be the third lot of bp meds I have tried and have not been able to tolerate the others ,

Has anyone else found that they are intolerant to lots of medications?

😀 Sandra

The one thing that concerns me is had your BP been checked in the intervening weeks? Stopping BP medication can sometimes cause a rebound effect. I do not know what your starting cholesterol was but after six weeks this also might be worth checking. Also bear in mind there are alternative cholesterol lowering drugs.

Thanks for reply,

I have had bp checked every fortnight and yesterday its still high my cholesterol is 5.2 which is not bad,

I take Benecol and now am investigating other plant sterols the Statins made me so ill I will never take them again, just hoping the lercandipidine suits me for blood pressure already tried losartan, rampiril and one other I cant remember.

As they gave me the two tablets to start together I cannot be 100% sure which one it was that caused the muscle pains extreme breathlessness and Angina like symptoms but had to stop them I wish I had gone to A&E at the time I have tried other statins but cant remember what they were.

writing everything down in future

I think the focus has to be on BP initially as cholesterol is only slightly elevated - did you get a breakdown? You may get to the cholesterol figure of 4.0 (for hearties) without statins but may have to minimise dairy and meat (other than poultry). Good luck!

I am meat and dairy free anyway

So thats a plus 😀

Yes and no as you cannot remove them to lower cholesterol further. One old lady told me pickled herring daily is the answer!

The one on Waitrose's deli counter is far tastier than the ones in jars. 🐟

I have had side effects from every drug I have taken since I started with heart disease in the 1990s. We have tried changing them, to no avail. Most of them gave me side effects with no benefits. I went on a Whole Food Plant Based diet in March 2018. I am now off the statins, diuretics and beta blockers. I am only on Clopidogrel "just in case". The only side effect I get from this is itching but that could be my fleas!
