I don’t believe it does, but I’d say this is one for a professional. The pharmacist employed at your doctor’s group of surgeries is the one best placed to answer your query, failing that your dispensing pharmacist.
Plenty of information on the website of Blood Pressure UK, the specialist charity.
Hello,No, I don't believe they do!? I am on a statin (4) years, and it is to strip cholesterol, ,(plaque) from my heart. Perhaps you are co fusing statins with beta blockers? They slow down your heart and also your blood pressure
+1 on above
Hi Middles. I have been on hypertension medications for years and I was skeptical about going on statins because many people put the fear of God in me the dangers of statins. I met someone who has been on them for a long time. I also consulted 3 different doctors who swore they were more beneficial than harmful. I had to put my trust in the medical team instead of the public. I am not sure about them lowering blood pressure but my cholesterol is definitely low. I am currently waiting for aortic valve replacement.
By helping prevent the build up of cholesterol blood would can flow through veins and arteries. This may help lower blood pressure and work alongside blood pressure medication. Again a doctor or pharmacist would be the best person to ask.
Thanks everyone and especially Maninblack !
Yes that's what I was wondering, whether less plaque would help bp. my cardiologist hugely rates statins and said even just every other day they are very effective and rosuvastatin has least side effects, ( like vivid dreams ) so Im starting them and v hopeful .. and thanks to everyone who replied ..so great to a have all your wise advice xx
Realise that most doctors / pharmacists are not themselves on these meds, they’ll just tell you what they’ve been told or read from the manufacturers, that’s why forums like this are interesting, you get to hear from people that are actually on the meds and their experiences of them, either positive or negative, it’s your body, you know what the meds are doing to you and the final decision whether to take them is yours taking into account what medical condition you have.
I wonder why you think doctors and pharmaceutical not on statins? I read a newspaper article recently and if I remember correctly some 8 million people in the UK are on statins. So some of them must be in the medical profession!
I am afraid statins don't affect blood pressure readings. You need different medications for that.
Statins are to reduce and stabilise plaque in your arteries, not to reduce BP.
