One of my wife's Peruvian cousins visited this weekend with her husband and their young son
The cousin works as a cardiac nurse in the Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan New York
It was a bit difficult trying to untangle all the unfamiliar detail amidst the family business going on, but it is all "there" on the internet-Madison Avenue, Park Avenue, Washington Heights, Columbia University-just like "Kojak!"
Her job is with patients awaiting heart transplants and I think she said that there can be up to 100 at any one time and it is not unusual to have to wait a year for a suitable donor heart to be available
In any event I found a sympathetic ear for my own case of having to wait for a quadruple bypass at St Thomas' having first presented with chest pains at A&E exactly a year ago and having had my pre-op on 29 March
The stress of waiting waiting waiting really got too much and as I am asymptomatic I came off the waiting list and will go back on it when we get the family holiday over in mid August
(It's not just me it is all the family members I will need to depend on when the time comes that I have to think of)
I have made my number with the Appointments Co-ordinator who says that it is looking like September/October time
My wife has a family reunion in Peru in the New Year and we must get it over by then and I promised to show the nurse my scar when they come over next year to see her in laws in Hampshire
