You are still very young.

There's a lot of life left to live. My husband is 22 years post transplant.

May I ask how long it took to recover

My husbands heart disease was caused by something called sarcoidosis. Which 22 years ago was not cut and dry because of lack of information and research. So he had a little longer recovery as he was bedridden for awhile pre transplant. So he needed some rehab etc.

He's been back to work full time for 21 years. Healthy with no rejection no problems. People have no idea when they meet him that he is a heart transplant survivor. Back then it was like science fiction to us. We were scared to death.

Things have progressed even further in this field of medicine in the last 22 years.

We have met many transplant patients that were home and well quickly post transplant. When you get the transplant you will be amazed at the energy you have because you have a good pumping heart.

You are still so young. Think about it.

If you have any other questions I would be happy to answer them.

I never got an alert on your response so I'm sorry for the delay in answering.

Check out the "Harefield Hamsters" website. There are people there over 35 years post transplant.

Well at least being ill hasn’t knocked the fun out of you but if you have a chance to be ok do it you’re not that old so try and look after yourself and have many more years to enjoy the things u like doing

Agree. 50 is young.

But I'm not sure about being a transplant candidate if you continue to drink etc.

I hope a response comes. I have wondered how the poster is doing.
