Ring them. The medical section answer the phone promptly and i found them very helpful. Remember it is a brand new licence so you will need a photo etc. Also be careful with insurance, mine thought I'd been driving for three weeks!

Hi

You can drive 4 weeks after icd fitting ,DVLA can be a bit tardy but they will only tell you

to carry on as normal,as long as your icd was purely a precautionary measure,in any case you can drive after 6 weeks as long as not notified to contrary.Hope that helps.

I had my pacemaker fitted at the end of may....my licence was stopped the day I notified DVLA I was to have one due to irregular beats....I have reapplied twice since...and despite being told by my cardiologist I could drive one week after proceedure all being well, I have not got my license back....I know it is for everyone s safety but do they know something I don't?....it is so frustrating to be dependent on hubby for every journey I need to make. ...and worrying to think there may be a problem I am unaware of....I feel your frustration and hope your problem is resolved soon.

Hi, just read your post, are you saying that you had your licence withdrawn when you told them you had a pacemaker? Or you told them prior to the fitting of the pacemaker which is when they stopped it? as clearly the PM should have sorted out the issue with your irregular heartbeat. So my understanding is that you should be able to drive after 1 week of the PM being fitted and continue to drive even after telling the DVLA, albeit pending their confirmation you are ok to continue.

I am thankfully back to driving now but it took several months. I was told to inform DVLA as soon as my AF was diagnosed... DVLA told me to stop driving until my pm was fitted then reapply for my license. I did not have to wait long for the procedure and all went well. However, despite no complications, it took several months of waiting for confirmation and license renewal with letters between consultant and DVLA. I still have AF...my pm is for trifacicular block...I take beta blockers for the AF but that seems to be fine for driving now....phew.
