BP, HR & Pulse

Prior to starting beta blockers (Bisoprolol) yesterday my BP was usually good (120/80 yesterday). Today, however, it is down to 102/58. Is this an issue? Should I see my G.P.?

Do you fee dizzy or faint? When my husband first started on 1.25 bisoprolol his BP was low 80's/50's. This improved over a few days & after a month the dosage was increased to 2.5 but his BP dipped again. GP reduced the dosage back to 1.25 & he had to monitor his BP for 6 weeks. He averages low 100's/70's now.

I felt dizzy and nauseous but thats subsided. I was started on 2.5mg bisoprolol 3 days ago but my future daughter in law, a doctor, advised taking it down to the more usual starting dose of 1.25mg, which I'll do and see how I go.

Are u on any bp meds? I'm on bisoprolol 1.25 and perindopril. I usually take perindopril 8mg but cardiologist said cut it to 4mg and if necessary take twice a day. It's normal for bp to drop. Also u could take it at night if cardiologist allows that . Might give u less symptoms of low hr

To start I was put on Isosorbide Mononitrate, Aspirin and a GTN spray. After my angiogram highlighted a blockage and narrow sections Bisoprolol 2.5 was added. Cardiologist did say I could take it at night to avoid side effects but I have been taking it in the morning.

WHen I took it at night to avoid the really low bP, I had hallucinations. Just be aware. I'm on BP tablets and diuretics so it was too much for me even low dose. It dropped my BP so low it was dangerous.

My husband is on bisoprolol & furosmide plus a number of other tablets, can I ask what your blood pressure dropped to?

Before my H/A I was on oxycodone & furosemide for 20 years with BP stable at around 126/78. When put on aspirin, ticagrelor ( then swapped to clopidogrel) simvastatin, ranitidine elantan ( soon stopped) and candesartan for BP, my BP went down to around 120/65. When I started bisopralol it dropped sometimes as low as 64/54. They tried a different beta blcker- I forget he name but it did the same so now I don't take one. My resting pulse is usually in the 80s and 90s which is why I was given it but I just can't tolerate it with all the others. When I tried taking bisopralol at night I had horrific hallucinations; great big 3 foot long black worms all over the walls.

Hi you are very lucky prior to taking bisoprolol my bp was normal too , I only started taking 1.25mg on March 19th my my bp during the day is all 87/55 around that range . My Gp says it lowers it and mine is low but not detrimental so I guess yours is perfect compared to mine. How long are you taking it now? And what is your dosage if u don't mind my asking ?

My husbands GP wasn't happy about his BP being low 80's over low 50's so she immediately reduced his dosage back to 1.5. I wonder what criteria they use to decide what is an acceptable BP & is it dependant on the medical condition. My husband has heart failure so a low BP could be detrimental for him but maybe its more acceptable for other conditions?

Bisoprolol lowers bp - aside from being used as an anti-arrhythmic, it is also used to treat hypertension, although it's fallen out of favour somewhat these days. I was on it for 9 years for SVT and went from ‘the blood pressure of a triathlete’ to pressure so low at 6am that I once woke up on IV fluids when I went into hospital for an op. The conclusion after my week there was that my bp was routinely very low as a result of the bisoprolol, but other than the odd bout of orthostatic hypotension (looked like I was having a fit if I shot up too fast to answer the door) I had no symptoms. Spoke to cardiology and my gp and they both said that as long as I was asymptomatic generally, it wasn’t a concern but to speak to them if the OH became more frequent or I started getting dizzy and faint. I generally found that once I got properly moving for the day, that brought my pressure up a fair bit, but it still tended to drop if I sat for a bit, hence the OH. Fluid intake is important - staying properly hydrated when you have low bp can make a big difference, but obviously seek advice if you’re fluid restricted for any reason. And
