There is a downloadable PDF that is well worth reading. Extract below.

It doesn't cover reversal, just prevention but it is a start.

1. Recommendation-Specific Supportive Text

"When the PREDIMED cohort was reanalyzed post hoc for the “provegetarian” food pattern (more vegetable consumption versus animal, egg, fish, dairy, or meat product consumption), a significant mortality rate reduction (41%) was noted in the 2 quintiles with the highest vegetarian score (S3.1-11). A comparison of plant and animal protein from the Adventist Health Study-2 cohort (S3.1-10) similarly indicated that using meat for protein was associated with a 61% increase in mortality rate, whereas replacing meat with nuts and seeds was associated with a 40% reduction in mortality rate. Similarly, the graded risk published by Song et al. indicated that lower mortality rate was associated with replacing animal protein of different origins with plant protein (S3.1-9). The evidence is mixed with regard to the effectiveness of dairy intake to reduce ASCVD risk factors, which is why it is not included in the listed foods for this recommendation. "

The "med" in "PREDIMED" stands for Mediterranean diet.

nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/N...

The PREDIMED study was a landmark piece of research that endorses the NHS and BHF recommendation of a Mediterranean diet, namely a high intake of olive oil, fruit, nuts, cereals and veg. A moderate intake of chicken, wine and fish. And a low intake of diary, processed meat, red meat, and confectionary.

The Mediterranean diet was also shown in the PREDIMED study to have particular benefits for anyone suffering from Atrial Fibrillation.

Thanks for that.

Still, it only refers to the Mediterranean diet preventing heart disease, not reversing it. Someone should do some tests on that.

Hi Jimmy. I know you follow a plant based diet. I do try to most days as well. Feel so much better for doing this. Chlosterol in November was 5.9 now 4.5. Got new chlosterol result today. Was very much inspired by Michael Gregor. His book ' how not to die'. Hope you keeping well
