Hi there. After multiple trips to a&e and doctors I have been told my chest pains appear to be something called “precordial catch symdrome” has anyone been affected with this before? The pain is always there like a dull ache then maybe every 20 minutes I get really sharp stabbing pains either in centre or left of my chest I have had ecgs blood work etc done and been told there is nothing to worry about with my heart but ofcourse anytime this pain occurs I panic which makes it worse! I am waiting to have an echocardiogram done aswel as a precaution. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this symptom and how they dealt with the pain as painkillers and anti-inflammation tablets ain’t helping atall!
Thanks
Chris

Musculoskeletal problems such as costocondritis and precordial catch syndrome are possible causes of chest pain however it is also important that other less common causes of heart related causes of chest pain are excluded.
Microvascular angina is one such cause of chest pain . It is poorly understood and quite often over looked as many GPs, Cardiac nurses and Cardiologists have little knowledge of the condition.
It is important that this condition is excluded as it does need to be treated appropriately.
Most of the tests for angina are designed to look for the more common cause of angina coronary artery disease.
It is not uncommon for people with Microvascular angina to have only subtle changes on their ECGs or ' normal' test results.
I hope you find the answers soon to your problems but if your pain continues do keep asking those responsible for your care to consider MVA if your conventional test come back normal.
Thank you for the response, I had mentioned this and also normal angina when getting my last ecg however as my symptoms are only the chest pain that does not radiate elsewhere and also I have no other symptoms eg shortness of breath etc they basically ruled out any angina however when I am at the cardiologist I will make sure to bring up this issue again!
Thank you also for the links these shall be helpful!
