On 30 April I attended Guy's Hospital Ultra sonic Angiology Dept for a Vein Map preparatory to heart surgery

This was the 5th London Hospital I have been to -the others being Kingston, Royal Brompton, St Thomas' and St George's

I have now got to the stage where I am presenting my body for them to work on in much the same way as the car goes in to the garage for MoT or servicing

All the hospitals seem to accept date of birth as sufficient evidence of identity

I have yet to see any of the scans or images produced but I understand from copy correspondence between consultants and the surgery that a Joint Cardiology Conference recommend a quadruple bypass and I am on a 6/8 week waiting list at St Thomas'

When summoned I shall simply present myself and let them get on with it!

I totally understand your frustration. However, this did make me smile! Hope all goes well x

Many thanks for the support

I get worried that they will not have a note of my blood group (A Rh positive) which I believe is one of the commonest but I will take my blood donor's card just in case

You will be in good hands there. Good luck with your surgery.

I am already working on a Recovery Programme of things to do by way of targets including walking to the postbox down the road, mowing the lawn and shopping at Sainsbury's

All very routine and rather boring at the moment but will be milestones when the time comes

Good luck, I’m sure you will be in great hands,

I have had 3 appointments with cardiac surgeons

They all have a similar calm detached manner and in fact all looked alike and in the same age group!

I am certainly happy to put myself in their hands and let them get on with it

Good luck for your surgery.

I wonder whether we will be bar coded and ' chipped ' like dogs soon then no need to tell them our date of birth!

I know how you feel!! The positive side is that at St Thomas’ you will have a fantastic team and just need to get on the conveyor belt that is heart surgery and let them do their “thing” that they do so well. After lots of research I chose this hospital and now, just 6 months after surgery, am planning to abseil down the side of St Thomas’ for charity next week.

The waiting really is the worst part!

I know two people who have had bypasses and they really are my inspiration

I just have to get my head round the fact that although it is major surgery it is quite common place these days and they apparently do hundreds of the operations
