Myocarditis recovery

Hello all,

I had myocarditis back in November and was hospitalised for two weeks & put on beta blockers. I was heavily pregnant at the time & have since given birth to a healthy baby boy. I have felt fine health wise until the last month when I’ve felt tightenings around my heart & have felt breathless at points. I had an ecg and a heart scan a couple of weeks ago & it all came back clear. Could it be that I’m having panic attacks or anxiety instead or is it possible they’ve missed something? My Husband & I moved to Italy last year so it’s very difficult to speak to my doctor about this as he only speaks Italian. Any advice would be appreciated please.

Phone one of the specialist cardiac nurses at BHF, they're incredibly helpful.

Good luck!

Hi MuminItaly

Congratulations on your new baby!

Recovery after myocarditis isn't always straightforward, and it may be that some pains you experience could be a slight flare up again. However if your ECG and echo are normal that is very reassuring. It is difficult for anyone other than your own doctor to tell you what is going on.

I've attached a page from an American Myocarditis Foundation myocarditisfoundation.org/a...

for you to have a look at, there will be people on this forum who have had myocarditis but in case they don't see your post you could look at posting on the forum here-as it is just for myocarditis.

If you continue to experience pain, and notice any other symptoms (shortness of breath, fatigue, palpitations) then it would be best to go back to the doctor and book a translator to go with you, so you can express your symptoms clearly and understand the doctors advice. The important thing to remember is if you continue to experience symptoms, please do not ignore them.

Some UK cardiologists may offer a Skype consultation privately, but they will need copies of your blood tests, ECGs and echocardiograms (from when you had myocarditis and also your most recent one). You can request these from hospitals as you are entitled to copies of your own medical records, but you may have to pay a small fee. It would be best to search for a consultant online who specialises in myocarditis.

You can always call us and speak to a cardiac nurse on 0300 330 3311, if you are able to from Italy.

Take care,

Ashleigh
