Up-date re manageable exercise

Thank you for all your suggestions in response to my asking for ideas on doing cardiovascular exercise without stressing my muscles and joints. Cardiac rehab have now referred me to gym on prescription to sample a wider range of things than they can provide such as aquafit. They admit I am not alone in not being able to manage their circuit-type training & I have stopped attending. Will carry on with my nordic walking meanwhile.

You could give Shibashi a try. You don't have to go out, it's very gentle and easy to learn. It takes about 20 minutes. Just follow the video: youtube.com/watch?reload=9&... I play it on YouTube via Google on my PC and "cast" it to the TV in the lounge to follow it. "Trust Me I'm A Doctor" found that it gave a good workout without strain or pain. My tutor says it can be done every day.

Thank you- I've tried this via the link your sent- very soothing. The moves are familiar since I already do tai chi. Dr Michael Moseley ( TV programme, Trust Me I'm a Doctor ) found that tai chi has almost the same cardiovascular benefits as Zumba but cardio rehab won't accept this.

I have been doing tai chi for about 20 years but Zumba for only 4 years. I must admit that for me there is a vast difference. I saw the programme with Michael Moseley and I found it hard to believe they were the same.

I work up a sweat doing the shibashi. You probably know this, the slower you do it the better the exercise with Tai Chi.

be careful with rehab . the physios and cardiac nurse that supervised mine caused the wires holding my breast bone together to break. I have had bad experiences with physics in the past and do not trust them. They do not think out what they are doing and the effects they create on your skeleton. Keep on walking, it is great exercise

I think one of the problems is the one size fits all approach & , in some parts of the country, the limited availability of equipment & other options. It may be that they all have to follow a set protocol?

HeartBeat in Preston tailor it to the individual. The rehab I went to in a gym in Blackburn see what you can do without strain and then try to increase it week by week. Supervised at all times.
