Hi. I’m just contemplating an ablation but as a keen walker, gym member and aerobics fan, was told I’d need to take it very easy for first two weeks. After that to build up the exercise (meaning of ‘build up’ perhaps needs quantifying!). Heart takes 4 months to heal I believe so they don’t want you doing very strenuous exercise until then. Others please correct me but that’s the info I got.

I’m sure you are nervous (and this is why I haven’t signed up to it yet) but if you’re active then I do believe it’s the procedure to have for our long term benefit. Not sure of your age but I’m approaching 57 and paroxsymal AF status. This forum has been so useful too. Good luck and I’ll be there later this year I know. Just got to say yes.

Hi..thanks...im 52...run 3-4 times a week and cardio gym other days..v active and physical job....so its a pain for the recuperating but fingers crossed its quick....i have been contemplating for over a year and only made my descision 2 weeks ago...and i feel like a 10ton weight lifted from my shoulders...its a hard one but you will get there either way eventually...i think AF has really big pyschological effects..sometimes worse than the condition....mine is paraxoysmal...5 e

I'm also due a catheter ablation procedure at the end of March. So far advice is - Don't drive or exercise strenuously for a week to allow "wounds" in main arteries/thigh areas to repair fully. Then OK to build up to normal exercises each week. Cardio Nurse advice - which presumably would be repeated when you leave the hospital. See also the notes that you should be given about all aspects of the procedure. Best wishes.

I think you should allow a bit longer for your body to repair itself, particularly as you have an active job. Start off very gently and don't pish yourself too hard. Don't forget your heart is forming scar tissue and it needs time to do it.
