Hi Gavin01
I had a triple bypass 3 years ago. Recovery time to feeling really good again was 3 months. Because the Ribs were broken and then wired up it easy uncomfortable for around 5/6 weeks.
Then I started going for long walks and rehab. I started out with 1 mile walks and o we time 3 to 4 miles . I was 69 years old when I had the surgery.
So accept that you will feel sore and uncomfortable for up to 6 weeks but you will be more mobile and pain free soon.
I has a very bad heart condition and now it is totally the opposite. So take it easy to start with and work within your comfort zone.
Expect to feel better and back to normal after 3 months to 6 months .
Hope that helps. 3 years later I feel fine
be patient. Your body has undergone a HUGE trauma and will take time to get its act together. Just keep going- walk a little further each day, lie down when you feel like it and get yourself ready for summer.
I measured my progress by lamp posts and driveways, got to know all the neighbours very well and slowly but surely made progress. It takes about 8 or 9 weeks for your breast bone to knit together, after that time lapse I was asked to do a cardio recovery program, which I did. Quite simple everyday exercises like ' stand up sit down', 3 sets of 15 repetitions then on to the next one.
Take it easy. If a Viking invader came along and took an axe to your chest you would be a bit upset and you would expect a bit of recovery time. Not quite the same process, you know that but your body doesn't, so be gentle with yourself.
