Heart bypass surgery

Suffered a heart attack on 6 October 2019 and having bypass surgery later today. Has all happened so quickly. Would like to hear from anyone who has been through similar experience.

Pleased to hear you will be getting put right, regardless of what anyone else says it is a game changer & worry for you and your family. I am 20 years + from my bypass so there is life in the old dog yet. Chin up and look forward to hearing how you get on.

Thank you so much for your response. All appears to have gone well. Everyone at St Thomas's has been superb. As you say this is a game changer. Just so glad to have come through the op. Can look to the future now as I start the long road to recovery.

A friend's father is doing well on his nineties and is over forty years post bypass. Having had a quadruple in June 2018 my advice is give your mobile to someone trusted. You can text total gibberish with the effects of morphine! Give us an update in a few days...

The notes I was given when discharged after having my ICD fitted in August read:-

Although you may not be aware of it, sedation can remain in your system for up to 24 hours and can cause you to be less alert than normal. It is important that you do not drive, drink alcohol, operate machinery or sign legally binding documents within 24 hours of the procedure.

Hi. Pleased to say I have come through the op and all appears to have gone well. I ended up having a triple bypass. Completely get your comment about the mobile!! Thanks so much for your response.

Many thanks. My third week at home and GP is pleased with my progress so far. I have received my invite to attend the local Heart Health Clinic in a couple of weeks. Awaiting my appointment to go back and see the surgeon at St Thomas's for review.

Happened to me in April this year- completely out of blue- was running that morning- cabg x 4 12 days later. Today just had session with personal trainer- going to get even fitter post all this!!! Good luck- follow the advice and update the site once you feel able. I sometimes forget it happened now!! The zipper reminds me!!!

Hi. Just like you this came completely out of the blue. Lying in bed one Sunday morning when the pain kicked in. Ten days later I'm having a triple bypass. I will be following all the advice I receive. Some lifestyle changes ahead!! All the best.

Two years ago exactly, my husband was in Basildon waiting for his triple bypass. He hadn't been allowed home after his angiogram. He worked really hard at the rehab and is fine, with never a trace of angina. Keep up the walking and you will do great as well. For the staff, it's routine stuff and their only job is to get you better!

The staff at St Thomas's have all been amazing. The op appears to have gone well. The road to full recovery starts here. All the best.

Hi folks just happened to me today. Came in for Angiogram and am still here waiting to see surgeon to get bypass done.. I'm still in shock but coming round slowly. Been cycling for 30 years ,good diet and never smoked...
