I have osas and the dvla took my license off me, when I eventually got it back, after a few months of medication and cpap, I phoned my insurance and asked if they needed to know.... They said no, which was surprising. So I guess its up to you, but you may have to take a hit on your premium.
Hi the DVLA
Says this
'Car or motorcycle licence
You don’t need to tell DVLA if you have angina.
You may continue to drive if you have angina (even if you need medication) unless it happens while resting, driving, or with emotion. You must stop driving until your symptoms are under control if it does.'
I don't think you have to but I did personally tell my insurance company....I wasn't charge anymore.
My Vasospastic angina does become unstable at times so I don't drive during these periods. I have stopped driving on the motorway too.
Under the disability act it is illegal for an insurer to increase your premium, excess or impose terms due to your medical condition. Obviously the dvla must be fully aware of your medical condition & agreed you can continue to drive. I can't comment on whether you need to tell your insurer but I personally think you should tell them then they cannot say they were unaware. However, doesn't unstable angina mean your condition isnt under control? My husband was always hospitalised until they were able to control it with medication.
