Had a Medtronic CRT-D fitted 9 weeks ago, and am now looking to get back on the golf course! Has anyone ever had any problems in using a ride-on buggy? Happy New Year to All. Regards, WBAS

I would not foresee a problem as you are sitting above a not particularly powerful battery and electric motor. Most of the risks with electrical equipment occur wen you are in very close proximity. I would not advise lying directly over the engine cover though. Obviously really powerful equipment like the electro magnets capable of lifting a car in a breakers' yard are a different ball game.

You could also ask the manufacturer. If you do so please let the forum know their response!

Hi Michael thanks for your prompt response. The golf club we are visiting in February have said the risk is down to me and they cannot take any responsibility for it and they say I should ask my medical team which I will do but as health professionals how much will they specifically know about EZ Go buggies?!! It is mentioned in the booklet I received from the manufacturer of the ICD to be careful with electric buggies so maybe I'll try and contact them as well. Thanks again and will keep you updated. Would welcome anybody else's experience. Regards WBAS.

I'm a keen golfer and using a golf buggy after surgery was the only way to get me back on the course in the short term. Unfortunately the T's & C's of the hire contract at my local club included the requirement to have a valid driving licence. So I paid for my golf partner to hire the buggy and I took a ride. I can't comment on the effect of the buggy on your pacemaker, you could always ask Medtronic for their advice. Some buggies have a petrol engine, others are all-electric.

Good luck - golf is great therapy, even if a little frustrating at times!

Hi guidedog98 thanks for your reply. Will certainly try to contact Medtronic to get clarification on the note in their leaflet saying be careful with golf buggies. Will keep you updated. Regards WBAS

I would also contact the manufacturers of the golf buggy as they should really know the information for health and safety reasons.

I have only played a couple of times since my school days. Then it was an alternative to cricket for those with their own transport. We were a motely crew ranging from NSI QuIcklys to an equally old Mini but mainly on motorbikes with "L" plates! Great days! :)
