It’s the first day of January 2019 a year we are all hoping will be a great one for all us “Hearties” old and new !!!
All my adult life I’ve had dogs mainly Cocker Spaniels and one rescue dog a German Shepard/ Border Collie cross called “Molly” who was so special and I miss her dearly.
Due to my divorce and the events of last year with the old AVR operation I haven’t had a dog now for 3 years as I was working full time and it wasn’t fair for the dog to be left for long periods in its own. So I’ve started to get my life in gear already and I’d like to introduce you all to “Skye” my new English Springer Spaniel Puppy whom I pick up from Kent on Saturday 5th January 2019 and although it’s a 7 hour round trip from where I live in Yorkshire she’s definitely worth it . We are going to walk miles together, out in the Yorkshire Dales , in Derbyshire and on the East Coast so she can run on the beach and swim in the sea, I can’t wait to pick here up !!!
The photo above is “Skye” at 8 weeks of age still living with her Shiw Champion parents who are lovingly known at home as “Rafferty and Millie” .
“Happy New Year” everybody I hope your all making plans as you need make 2019 a year to remember for all the right reasons 😀😀😀👍

Yeah I'm doing well thanks Pete and had a lovely quiet Christmas. Walked a mile yesterday (though feeling lazy so far today!) and am down to 2x paracetamol a day. So making progress. Still astonishingly tired mind, but just a question - as everyone has rightly said - of being patient and listening to your body and resting. Nic x
From the sounds of it Nic your doing great I know initially it doesn’t feel that way but if you walked a mile yesterday your really on track so keep it going don’t push too hard ( says he who did) and you will be fine and be back to doing the things you love x

I am still on 'watch and wait '! Have repeat echocardiogram 8th January. ( 8 months since last one which was gradient 50 was told severe end of moderate aortic stenosis) so we shall see where we are at. See cardiologist end of January. I am very anxious but your journey has really helped.
To be honest it’s the waiting game that is the worst period as it’s constantly on your mind but once they decide it’s time and you know timeframes etc things do get a little easier
All of us that have been through it are there for anytime you need us

Happy New Year Pete. Sounds like getting Skye is just the pick up you need, pets are such great nurses. We have five cats now and they were such a comfort whilst I was recovering from my various ops.

Like you we've had dogs all our married life, then we had a gap for a few years, but we got our first dog again nearly 4 years ago, after my AVR surgery, we've now got 3 dogs, and they are my reason to get up every day and go out.
They're responsible for my new found love of all things gundog X
I’m taking Skye to ringcraft classes obedience classes and contemplating doing gundog training all to keep her and me active and mentally stimulated .did you take yours to Gundog training and how did you find it ?
My youngest lab is just 8months, so I'm just starting with him, and my other boy, is nearly 3 and this shooting season should have been our first proper season, but heart issues mean we have missed most of it!
But yes I do go to gundog training, I'm fortunate that the breeder of my boys (owns the stud dogs) also bred my middle boy, and is a gundog trainer, so she has been really encouraging for me as a complete beginner X
I thoroughly enjoy the training, and even though it can be over some tough ground, nothing is ever done at any speed, it's all very slow paced, so never really physically challenging.
Oh my goodness Pete, she is completely adorable. I love spaniels, they are proper dogs if you know what I mean. I spent some time over Christmas with a lovely cross between a labrador and a border collie. I did mull over whether I should get a dog. Probably not was the outcome but I am thinking of volunteering at the local Dogs Trust where you can take the dogs for a walk. I will think of you and Skye out and about in the Yorkshire countryside. What a brilliant start to the year!
Although I’ve had a few wonderful Cocker Spaniels my best dog ever was a rescue dog who was a German Shepard cross Border Collie she was 15 months old when I got her and she lived till she was 17 years old. She was called Molly and she was the most intelligent sweetest dog I’ve ever known and I still miss her. I was considering being a dog walker at the local rescue centre where Molly was from after I’d fully recovered from my AVR but then jumped in with both feet and decided to Get Skye .
Oh, you lucky thing! Skye looks absolutely gorgeous and she’ll make such a big difference to your life, won’t she? And lucky Skye to get you too! Bet you can’t wait for Saturday! You’re both going to have so much fun together. Dogs are just the best! (I have a silly Jack x Border terrier who usmtbest pal.) Send us lots if updates! Great start to 2019!
I could have waited a bit longer I suppose but it’s a new year a new start and she has stole my heart ❤️ I’m a great believer in fate as she was born on the day I was released from St Thomas Hosputak when my new life started
I’m counting down the days just not looking forward to the 7 hour round trip so I’m gonna travel down Friday stay overnight somewhere in Kent and then go to get her Saturday morning
