Ah, yes. I had a silent MI - went to the GP with a stomach bug that had been going on for 3 weeks, and something I said made them do a blood test that included troponin. That level was so high they immediately ordered me into hospital. Angiogram showed a narrowed artery so they stented it, but it wasn't until I had an MRI that the full extent of the problem showed up - bad scarring and moderate to severe mitral regurgitation!

Hi Alison

You can have a heart attack without having a permanent blockage.

Known as a Myocardial infarction no obstructive coronary arteries MINOCA

Thought to be the cause if 10% of heart attacks. The causes are Coronary artery spasms, Coronary Microvascular dysfunction, Spontaneous coronary artery dissection and Takostubo syndrome or a plaque or clot blocking the artery.

There is greater awareness that Non obstructive coronary artery disease is a problem. It tends to effect women more than men.

Today Prof Chris Gale's research was on the Latest news page of the BHF it shows that women tend to have a poorer outcome after a heart attack.
