I am a new member so excuse me if this post is inappropriate for this forum.
I had a heart attack last Wednesday and had a stent fitted to one coronary artery, I need another one of two stents fitted in around 8 weeks. Have you had a similar experience? If so how long was your recovery and how long before you were able to obtain travel insurance?

I’m also new to this forum and to be totally honest it was the last place I expected to be!!! I’ve always been very fit and active but had a heart attack a week past on Friday and then 5 stents fitted last Tuesday (a bit unusual for one sitting I understand). Anyways I’m not sure how long full recovery takes but I’ve been signed off from work until January and will hopefully get into Cardiac Rehab classes mid December which everyone on here seems to highly recommend. I’m also hoping to get back to where I was before and all indications from others is that this should be possible to do. As far travel insurance there seems to be a few posts on here which should give you the info you need. 😄
As for me I see this as the start of a positive journey and glad that it happened now and not in 5 years time when it could’ve been much worse!!!
So I’m sure you’re probably as confused as me at this point and wrestling with a whole bundle of emotions but please feel free to contact me if you wanna chat through anything as seems like you and I are at pretty much the same point of the journey. 🙂
Hello Johny, I had my attack in early Jan. Had two stents immediately and one other 4 weeks later . After nine months the DVLA has revoked my HGV licence permanently , and have just had an Internal Cardiac Defibrillator fitted . All in all I feel pretty good but realize that I wil never run the London marathon. It will depend on the causes off your attack in the first place . Over all , take your time and don`t rush things
sorry to hear of your issues, I hope your recovery goes well. Travel insurance is available, usually at a great increase in cost. there is a pinned post here, healthunlocked.com/bhf/post..., which may be of some assistance.
Please ask your GP for help in filling this out, and also for guidance on when you should fly, assuming you are flying
Hi johnyp - I had a NSTEMI in April of this year and had 2 stents. I was told I would need further stenting at a later date (as soon as it could be arranged) as my LAD was 75% blocked. It took me approx 8 weeks to build up my strength gradually increasing physical activity mainly by walking prior to going the rehab course which you should be offered. I recommend you chase up rehab if you don't hear anything soon as information is sometimes not passed on and some are overlooked. I had great experience at rehab - it's not only about physical activity but also a forum to gain information and support. Remember we are all different as regards to recovery time etc and continuing existing problems so go at your own pace. As regards to insurance most companies will not cover your heart condition if you are awaiting further procedures. You can try but that was my experience. Eventually the Cardiologist told me he felt the remaining blocked artery was not as bad as originally thought and would be better manager with medication. I then obtained cover with allclear who charged £169.00 for an annual policy (Europe only). All the best
Thanks for your reply Nathan. I am waiting to hear about rehab and will engage fully with the programme, I thought that I was back to normal but have just slept for a couple of hours. I look forward to getting the further syent/s fitted and hope to make full recovery. Best wishes.
