Hi. On Monday was admitted with heart attack. One completely blocked artery n stent fitted. This came out of the blue as I am a fit 63 year old. Home now n resting. We have flights booked to visit sons in usa for Christmas but wife worried about me flying although doc says it is ok. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

My cardiologist told me when I flew pre -heart event and stents I was a very risky passenger (worrying as I'd done a 10 hour flight not long before) after stents he told me I was not and to do a round the world flight if I wanted. I think you will be fine and enjoy your break.

I think you will be fine. If you decide to go make sure you drink lots of fluid to keep well hydrated. Do foot exercises (just moving foot in circular motion) every hour while sitting and walk around as much as possible. Ask GP or Pharmacist if you will benefit from wearing flight socks. The big concern I have is a really good travel insurance policy. Make sure you have good cover. Lastly but importantly after taking all the precautions have a great time.

I had HA and Stents just before xmas last year totally unexpected, left hospital Christmas Eve. I flew to Edinburgh just after new year and weekly for the next 3 months. Like you Doc said it would be fine and it was. About to go to Florida, and as mentioned in a previous post, if only insurers understood that we're less risk than we were before

Good luck with your recovery

I had a HA in August with Stent fitted and flew to USA for a pre-arranged family holiday in October. Similarly my wife was worried about the whole thing however there were no issues whatsoever πŸ‘. Enjoy your trip

You should have no problems but please do not go without travel insurance. Make sure the insurance covers the USA. Not all policies have this cover.

Your cardiologist will know best, ask him what to do

It was the prohibitive cost of insurance that made us cancel a similar post HA trip to S Africa. Because I was going to be reviewed most firms refused and specialist firms thought just two months after warranted premium almost as much as holiday. So good luck with that.

Same thing happened with me in June. Went to gym walked a lot and had a healthy diet but 3 June woke up with a pain in my back where I couldn't lie and then pain right along the bottom of jaw earlier on a few wks before I'd printed off if you were alone what to do if you had a heart attack. Certainky worked but daughter told me to go to a and e or walk in centre in afternoon she rang again and I promised I'd go to walk in centre saw a nurse who told me shed thought I had a heart attack told me this I was saying il go to my Drs tomorrow she replied ambulance is in it's way. Got to hospital couldn't fault them ecg straight away and sister came and told me I'd had a heart attack and I'd have a stent in. I was really upset she told me your daughter saved your life and you've got her to thank. No one could believe I'd had a heart attack. You don't know what around the next corner or the next minute.
