AF Diagnosed in January 2018

Diagnosed after a chest infection earlier this year.

Short stay in hospital.

Now on 7 daily meds.

Awaiting follow up from consultant.

Please help as so much advise needed.

The condition affected my feet really badly due to swelling and pain so much so I'm still not walking properly 10 months later and only just back in training shoes.

As a gout sufferer long standing and now not permitted the usual medication of Arcoxia the attacks are very often - Allopurinal not the remedy and the doctor withdrew colchicine.

Inactivity has been a major issue and has not helped at all with weight loss and being very overweight this is depressing.

Occupation wise I was a chauffeur and that occupation is not an option at the moment again this is causing added strain and stress.

How life changes with one visit to the doctors with a chest infection!!

Normally I'm a very positive optimistic guy but 11 months down the line I'm pretty fed up.

Pete

I sort of understand the feeling. In early 2017 I had a chest infection that dragged on. When I got chest pains I blamed the infection. To cut a long story short it culminated in a quadruple bypass this summer. It was not a total shock as on the male side of the family there is an appalling history of CVD.

How long have you been waiting over six weeks chase it up with the consultant's/department's secretary.

The NHS is overloaded and people can get lost in the system. I know as my referral did!

As you well know weight loss can make a big difference. A friend's wife's arthritis virtually disappeared after she lost 40% of her weight. These days GPs can prescribe WW or Slimming World courses to get you started. From people I know SW seems the more effective with more constructive support.

My husband was diagnosed with AF about 3 months since and has been quite poorly and was like you very down. However he is now improving and feeling more hopeful, we go walking most days just steady and on the days he feels a bit grotty he rests, my son likens it to having an overdraft if you go over drawn i.e do to much then you have to put something back by resting. His cardiologist has told him that if he gets near his ideal weight he can more or less guarantee the AF will resolve.

I hope things improve for you soon me & my husband were very scared at first. You need to chase up your appointment though.

Good luck
