SIX WEEK REVIEW............THE JOURNEY STARTS HERE

Arrived at St Thomas in London at 11.30am one of the nurses was good enough to give me my daily Tinzaparin Injection . 12pm arrived and I had my Echo Scan on my heart which was reall6 thorough . There was a gap now till my appointment with the consultant at 3.20pm so I went walk about in London and went to covent Garden and although the temperature was only 12 degrees the sun was shining and it was great .i walked back to the hospital and arrived at 2.45pm ( I’m always early ) the appointments were running 45 minutes late and at 4pm a nurse came and took me to a room and did my BP, an ECG and my height and weight and then sat me back in the waiting room .

The consultant called me through got me to take all my tops off and gave me a thorough examination including pressing on my chest around my wound and getting me to cough !! At least I didn’t have to drop my pants and cough because his hands were cold lol 😂😂 ............ He then discussed all my results and told me my Echo showed the valve was working great so was my heart my BP and heart rate and oxygen levels were all good , my chest was clear and my lungs were fine.

He asked me if I had any questions and I told him I’d made a list on my iPad ( Typical me )

I asked how long I needed to stay on bisoprolol and he said it’s long term after heart surgery ......... shit was hoping to dump that one but apparently it’s the same for everybody . I asked when I could fly and he said once my legs sorted I could go on holiday. I asked about having a beer with my mates at weekends and he said because I don’t have a mechanical valve and I’m not on warfarin it’s not a problem . I then asked asked the ultimate question about when I could have sex he asked how my erections were and I said really good ( not bragging by the way just being honest as always) he said that’s good news as sometimes men can suffer in this area from 5he effects of the op and the meds but he advised me to leave it another 4 weeks and then take it gently think about things like position and don’t over exert yourself ( chance would be a fine thing lol 😂😂 ) so all you men out there take this sound advice.

I must say the news exceeded my expectation especially when he said he’s so happy with my progress he’s discharged me and I only need to contact 5hem if I have any major issues I don’t think my GP could sort and they would see me straight away .

I feel fantastic and I’m buzzing at the minute remember people no matter how shit it gets there is light at the end of the tunnel

Take care you lovely people

Happy Halloween

Hugs and kisses

Pete xx

Well done Pete. I am so pleased for you. Passing every test with flying colours yay!! Just love hearing a positive outcome story, it can and does happen and your proof of that, go pete!

You are an inspiration. Keep up the positive attitude it works. As they say "healthy mind, healthy body."

Like that you made a list when seeing the cardiologist, it feels good to get all the answers to the questions that crop up.

Stay positive and go and have a pint or or three 🤣🤣. Life is for living so go out and live it.....

Hi Pete.

I had that day too! I took a train up to London on a sunny day and made my way to St. Thomas' Hospital. After all the checks and chat with the consultant, they declared I was doing well and (in the nicest possible way) said they didn't want to see me again!

I did go back upstairs and got a hug from Sister. The sun was still shining brightly when I left, leaving me to reflect on the happenings of those 6 weeks. All the way from blue lights in an ambulance, through the actual surgery and then the fabulous care in the recovery ward and after in Doulton ward.

It all seems a long time ago now, almost difficult to believe. I've done my rehab classes and while I'm not about to run any marathons I'm a thousand percent better than I was in early June.

I know your posts on this forum have been read many, many times by people who are just starting out on the journey you and I have been through. I think there is no doubt your honest writing has been of value to many of them.

Cheers mate.

Alec.

Hi Alec

I’m so glad you had the same day as I’ve just had and your doing really well and feel better than you did in June . We both need to make the most of the second chance we’ve been given and live life to the full

It’s nice of you to say my honest account of my journey will have helped people because if I’ve helped one person along the way then it’s all been worth the effort as that was my intention

Keep safe and happy

Hi Pete

Until next time

Ticktock61 profile image
Ticktock61 in reply toRugbymad

Martin that sounds great especially the 3 pints !!!

Good idea to go to caravan my sister had one untill 2 months ago and I would have gone to hers if she hadn’t sold it as I love walking along the coast even if the weathers not perfect.

Good your out walking as well mate it does help take everyday as it comes but try to enjoy life that’s the main thing in all this some people think they have to become a monk afterwards and spend too much time concentrating on what they CAN’T do and not actually “DOING” ........ what’s the point just go with everything in moderation and be happy pal

Do you know what Joan my thoughts exactly my life at the moment revolves around these injections which finish 9th November and if it’s all cleared up I can move on if not a further course of injections but you’d think 6 weeks would sort it anyway fingers crossed for the scan on the 9th

Hi Pete,

Lovely to read your great news. You must be feeling over the moon!

My GP referred me to the surgeon /hospital of my choice and I’m extremely relieved that he will now be doing my MVR in March next year, through mini- right thoracotomy. Like you will be a fair way from home but the right surgeon was my priority.

Thanks for helping me to persevere through to this stage ❤️😘

Ticktock61 profile image
Ticktock61 in reply tosims789

Hi

That’s great news that you got the hospital and the surgeon you wanted it worked for me even though I was a long way from home it was the right decision. I hope everything goes fantastically well for you.
