Annual echos anyone?

My dad has a metal aortic valve since 2000 and he has an annual echo cardio to check it’s still working efficiently. He had the last one Augusta 2019. A cardiologist rang today, asked how he felt and said his next appointment will be in a year. Are annual echos no longer happening. He is 80 so a year is along way away. He was also supposed to be checked out to see if he needed a pace maker but there was no talk of that either. Thanks.

Hi I have a tissue valve and have a yearly echo last one May 2019, haven’t heard anything about my next appointment. Thought I would leave it until next month and chase it up.

If your a Dad is under a Cardiologist seeing that they want to check him out for a pace maker. I would give his secretary a call see what she says. I have been discharged from my Cardiologist so my point of contact is my GP.

Hope you can get some help stay safe Pauline

I have some bad news for all metal valve people. After 25 years my cardiologist told me he no longer wanted to see me, I asked why he said the warrenty had ran out. That was 22 years ago. Life can be tough

Yours drew at 72

Wow, well done Drew. You’ve just made me feel very lucky lasting to the age of 62 before I had my AVR. I can’t imagine the shock you must have gone through at the time. If I get 25 years out of mine I shall be more than happy.

I had a mechanical valve fitted last May and there has been no mention of any checks, I was told it should last as long as the rest of me, I am only 50!
