I'm new. My cardiologist has decided that my aortic stenosis needs to be operated on, I have had all tests - carotid artery, echocardiogram, angiogram, etc - and have passed! My appointment is with a surgeon in 2 weeks at Glasgow Jubilee Hospital. I am 82, and my wife is concerned that OHS will be too hard on me, and perhaps TAVI might be more appropriate. I am interested in recovery times, as I want to get back on the golf course as soon as possible!!

OHS vs TAVI
I am a 77yr old lady golfer. I had a new aortic valve and triple by pass 9 wks ago. Recovering well and walking a couple of miles most days. I feel good. Advised to wait 3 months before swinging a driver but going to do some chipping today. The cardiologist decided that surgery rather than TAVI would be better for me.
I’m a little younger than you but I too was advised to not swing a golf club in anger for 3 months post op. Recovery times are something of a lottery as so much depends on you as an individual, how smooth the surgery was etc., but all being well you can take the big dog out of the bag early in the new year. In the meantime, get the putter out so you can become a demon on the greens when you return. Good luck and I hope all goes well for you
I think you have to go with the surgeon's advice as he will have taken into consideration other factors besides age such as fitness and any other health issues. Sometimes minimally invasive surgery becomes open heart surgery if there is an issue. Age definitely is not an issue as the issue as the Queen Mother and Prince Phillip underwent successful hip surgery at 95 and 96 respectively. The main thing is to be as fit as you can before surgery and to be positive!
