Icd fitted

Hi everyone I would like to ask about people’s experience with an icd as Iv been asked if I would like one fitted heart attack and heart failure 2 half years ago on all the usual meds I’m just a bit put off by something in my body and can it go off by accident I would love some feedback on people who have had one and their experience thank you and god bless you all Kwagmire??

Hi Kwagmire. First of all, what is your EF?If they've offered you an ICD, go for it. It is an insurance policy; in case your heart stops it will kick start it. There is a chance that it can go off but the hospital will pick that up and let you know.

I was reticent about having one but in the end had one fitted a few weeks ago. I am told that after a while you forget it's there. You will have to be careful for 4-6 weeks, not raise your left arm above shoulder level and have some bruising but that is all temporary.

Hi I had an Icd for a few years, I have had a transplant now so it was removed, it made me feel really safe especially when I was on holiday, I was glad to have it, I had more confidence going out and about myself with it, knowing that if anything happened I would be fine not relying on anyone to find a defibrillator, it never fired by accident, I had one appropriate shock, I was sleeping and never even woke up, my home monitor let the hospital know and they phoned, my consultant told me that I was very lucky I had an Icd, I had arythmogenic cardiomyopathy and severe heart failure, I wouldn't hesitate to have another one char

Hi Kwagmire, live the pic lol.. I had to have an ICD fitted. I see it as my guardian angel. It does feel strange at first but you get used to it. One of my oldest sons calls me the bionic woman! It really is a reassurance having it there x

Like other comments I had an ICD fitted in May last year. Apart from being able to see the shape of it under my skin I have had absolutely no issues with it. I just look at is as a battle scar lol. Before it was fitted I struggled with anxiety as I was only 6 months post HA. I feel like it's my protector now. My anxiety dropped immensely almost instantly. I jumped at the chance of having it fitted. Yes you have to get used to things like keeping items such as your phone or electric toothbrush 5 inches away from it but I just swapped to keeping them in my right hand. Not had any issues at all with it and feel safer in the fact that if anything did happen, it would help me. Go for it

My brother had one fitted prior to first lockdown. He has had no problems at all. He just has to send some results to the hospital each month. He walks miles with his dog every morning. He is on 2 blood pressure meds and diuretics.
