update on avr
Hi, l am 18 months AVR, and didn't think l would take so long to get back to some sort of normality. You must try and be patient but it is very hard. l still get tired easily and frustrated that my energy levels will never be the same, its only now that l have learned to live with it. l also suffered with depression and was snappy with my family and friends and still have a lack of tolerance with whinging moaning people who have never been through life changing disease and/or surgery. lt will get better mate, hang on in there! l am only on life long warfarin so its not the tablets. As for the ticking it does subside over time but never wear earplugs it makes it worse. lf l feel fed up l go for a walk and play silent stupid games eg how many people do l pass who have facial hair or are ugly. Hope you feel better soon. Take care, Sue.
I’ve had issues after a valve replacement and told it was cos my valve was needing another op. I had to have a repair about 6mths later. I have no idea wat ur is. I kno I wreak my heart valves.
Hi there,
Have you chatted to your doctor about your symptoms? Your GP or Cardiologist?
You could also chat to your local Pharmacist as they are experts in medications and side-effects.
Give us a call on our Helpline if you'd like to chat things through with one of our Cardiac Nurses.
All the best to you.
Julie
Hi, I’m 9 months post AVR and I still get very tired at times and find my energy levels can drop very quickly, I also still get breathless if I try to walk too fast.
I agree with Julie about speaking to your pharmacist as mine is brilliant if I have any concerns about tablets I’m on or if I need an over the counter medicine.
I also have a mechanical valve but can only hear mine at night and I use earplugs, but I find it quite soothes no. I think the type of valve makes a difference too, some are louder than others. Hopefully you’ll get used to it over time, but can appreciate how frustrating it is when all you want to do is sleep. Hope that nags improve.

I am also 9 months post avr. Mine is tissue so no ticking. Still getting breathless my doctor says it is anxiety and is giving me anti-depressants.I am worried because the gp ignored my symptoms for over a year. My operation was emergency after diagnosis in A&E
