After a cardiac specialist has agreed that mitral valve repair is required how long before the repair is carried out? I saw the specialist early July, angiogram carried out, due to see the surgeon October 1. What are the chances of the repair this year?

I first saw the cardiologist in June last year and had the repair done this March.

Hi I waited 12 weeks after my appointment with the surgeon but it depends I guess on the severity - my surgeon was going to repair but once he looked at it during surgery realised it was too far gone so had a mechanical replacement valve 1 year on and I feel great 👍 good luck x

Hi, I saw cardiologist in June and put on waiting list which is around 3 months. Had other tests but still waiting for angiogram and appointment with surgeon. Which angiogram did you have? I have appointment for CT angiogram but was told this may be changed to the one through the wrist. Had both 3 years ago, so this will be a repeat. The waiting is difficult - trying to keep busy!

I had a standard angiogram through the growing. Carried out just over 4 weeks after seeing a cardiac consultant. I had an appointment to see the surgeon September 17th 10 weeks after seeing the consultant. I have postponed this for 2 weeks as I will be on holiday, keeping busy

From the replies it seems that there is a very big range 5 weeks - 9 months. The NICE guideline for non urgent cases is 18 weeks. Can heart surgery ever be classed as non urgent?

Hi Bowls. I was in hospital for 18 days in July and discharged on 20th July after consultant fitted an ICD. He told me I'd have the MV replacement within 2-4 weeks... I have an appointment with the surgeon on 19th Sept!

Hi it will really depend on your own area and hospital waiting times. My advice have a chat to your Cardiologist s secretary, they know everything they will give you a better idea of wait time. If you can be flexible and go in at short notice let them know as they often get cancellations. Hopefully you won't have too long a wait
