Waiting time

Was interested if anyone knew what the average waiting time is for having further treatment after your first cardiology appointment my gp seems to think that i will need to be shocked to put the rhythm back correctly. If it's about 6 months then you can't be considered a at risk so what's the point of enduring the blood thinners for so long when you might not need them in the first place because all I'm having is bad side effects.

That's not really something any of us can answer as every condition and hospital will have different wait times. The best thing to do is phone the cardio depart at the hospital as I have found the admin staff to be really helpful and honest with you. They will give you a better idea of your local situation. They may also hold a cancellation list do you can opt to be called in at short notice if someone cancels. That's worth asking about. Good luck

I have rang them and they don't do a cancellation list and they don't have any earlier appointment times so it was just another waste of time

My husband was diagnosed with AF 2 years ago hes just had cardioversion(where they shock the heart) it worked for about a week then went back to AF, he was told if it had worked he would still have to take blood thinner.

DO you mean that after a 2 year wait it only lasted a week.

yes in other words the procedure didn't work for him but consulant said even if it had worked he would still have to take blood thinner.

I went private for a consultation with a Cardiologist which was £200. It was a very helpful meeting. I choose a cardiologist who I know works at the hospital I am on the waiting list for. He will now put me on his NHS list. I'm not sure if that means I'll be seen sooner (I hope not really - should be on need and I'm only walking worried) but at least when I see him again we have already met and made some progress. I know not everyone can afford £200 but I argue that if I don't spend on my health at 62 then what else will I spend it on since I've now almost given up drink, never smoked and eat mostly cheap pulses and nuts to keep excess cholesterol and sugar out of my blood so I'm now rolling in cash haha.

I've noticed a significant drop in the grocery bill myself since changing my diet to accommodate my heart condition - so much of a drop my husband and I can afford to shop the local butcher now for all our meats. We're both on private pensions (three years to go before state kicks in) so the savings has been rather nice.
