Hi there everyone hope you're doing well and enjoying your day.
I'm after advice regards how to write my medical conditions on a medical alert bracelet which only allows 45 digits including spaces on 2 lines.. (the word ICE: plus mobile number uses up 17) my quandry is if I use CABG will this be recognised or do I need to put cardiac bypass surgery?
As I have other medical conditions re my eyesight I'm limited on digits..and don't really want to wear multiple bracelets..
Anyone else had this issue?
Thank you in advance.xx

Hi Sandrann. I think most health care professionals would know CABG. But if it’s someone else perhaps not. You’re right it’s a quandary. Maybe try out a few options and show friends and family to see if they understand. Sorry this is no help whatsoever! Hope all is well with you. Take care Zena x
I would suggest NHS number in the hope they can then trace your records. Sadly the EPR (Electronic Patient Record) project is going nowhere fast. Having worked in IT for over three decades I think they talked to the wrong people in identifying the requirements and then employed the wrong people to implement it. I recently saw a job advert for two people to work on it locally - the skill sets asked for were not the most relevant but one I would consider highly relevant was not. Earlier this year a senior nurse told me if implemented properly it would save a lot of time! Rant over - it's a bank holiday!
Thank you for your suggestion Skid... have a great weekend x
Hi I have my full name, dilated cardiomyopathy and ICD, that was all I had space for, but I bought a Med pal card that I keep in my purse which has details of an emergency contact and all my meds, I always hope someone will look there when they see my bracelet, I also have Ice set up on my phone, little things but they do make me feel a bit better when out by myself, tc char x
Thank you Chaz..yes I also have my Ice number on my phone, which is a comfort of sorts.. and I did consider having a med card and keeping it in the phone wallet as an alternative to wearing a second medical bracelet but wondered if anyone would look at my phone as I'd be wearing a medical alert bracelet which would have my Ice number on it....ha ha...
I'm going to have to give this issue more thought...ha
Hi, you could have one with a paper insert which allows more space for writing or have an engraved one and use so wording for 'see I.C.E. in wallet' to give more details.
Thank you Andrew...yes that's a good idea if the medical bracelet is one of the metal ones...as I react to certain metals I was avoiding that type and going for a silicone bracelet/band... Ha...back to the drawing board for me I think...
Hi Sandrann. I also have problems with some metals, so I'm looking at these. Not very feminine, but I like them. There are 4 different colours with this company. theidbandco.com/Olive-Green...
Hi Sandrann. The other thing perhaps to consider is with my iPhone (I presume other phones also have it) there’s a medical alert which you can put all details of medical history medication contact details etc which can be accessed even when the phone is locked. You press emergency and then the number pad comes up but at the bottom to the left in red is medical ID and that will show all details. It was invaluable to me when the ambulance team picked me up as I didn’t have the breath to speak much. You complete your details in the main app. Apologies if this is telling you something you already know. Hope it’s more helpful than my first post! Have a fab weekend. Zena x
That is a good idea from Zena & one I will be looking to implement - once I get to grips with my new phone. At present I wear 2 x Dog Tags on a chain round my neck and was thinking of getting one of the USB Stick types.
If you are allergic to particular metals then remember a lot of these ID tags etc can be made from non-metallic materials and be just as hard wearing.
I have a "heart conditions" medic alert key tab on my key ring with my ICE name & tel. No. & a message saying "more info on medical alert cards" (which are the size of credit cards) in my handbag with info of my health conditions & medications & more contacts' names & numbers. I found it on Amazon - paid more for extra blank cards to list all my health conditions. Clare
I have three "sports" alert ID bands from the ID Band company; I wash the one I am wearing at the end of the day if I have been doing anything "sweaty". I have my name and telephone number on the "slip in" card, then a list of my medication (name and dose). I work on the theory that if I am taken ill whilst out-and-about the ambulance personnel / hospital staff will be experienced enough to realize they need to take action when they notice the band, and to be either aware of the drugs, or have the means of accessing the information they require. My family and friends are aware that if I am taken ill they need to get help.
